York and Mitchell named Pac-12 POW

SENIOR SAFETY Lance Mitchell and junior fullback Clayton York have been named defensive and special teams Pac-12 Players of the Week.

Lance Mitchell, a native of Pasadena, Calif., earned the league's honor for the second time of his career.

Despite playing with injury, Mitchell in last Saturday's 37-27 win over Arizona at Reser Stadium posted seven tackles, recovered a fumble, had an interception, a pass break up and a 13-yard reception off a fake punt.

Last season Mitchell was the Pac-12's Defensive Player of the Week after an 18-tackle performance against TCU.

Clayton York, from Redmond, Ore., blocked an Arizona punt in the first quarter and then recovered it for a touchdown, amounting to a 41-yard return for score. It was York's first block of his career.

Mitchell and York are the second and third Beavers to be recognized by the league this season. Junior cornerback Jordan Poyer earned Special Teams Player of the Week after setting a Reser Stadium record with an 85-yard punt return against UCLA last month.

Oregon State returns to action this Saturday hosting the BYU Cougars at 1 p.m. The game will be televised by Fox College Sports Pacific (and KBYU-TV in Utah.) Root Sports NW will replay the game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available by contacting the OSU ticket office at 1-800-Go-BEAVS during business hours or online.
