Crichton on Lombardi WL; fall camp near

SCOTT CRICHTON

OREGON STATE sophomore defensive end Scott Crichton has been named to the Lombardi Award Watch List. The award is given to the nation's top college lineman or linebacker each year. Meanwhile, fall camp at Oregon State is less than three weeks away...

Scott Crichton exploded onto the scene his redshirt freshman season in 2011, leading the Beavs with 14.5 tackles for loss (second in the Pac-12), forcing six fumbles, (an all-time OSU program high) and finishing with 74 tackles, fourth on the team.

He also led OSU with six quarterback sacks and started all 12 games. He logged a fumble recovery, blocked kick and broke up three passes as well in 2011.

The Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List will be periodically revised until the first round of voting is completed, which determines the Top 25 quarterfinalists for 2012. The second round of voting will determine the final seven semifinalists or "Seven Blocks of Granite." The third round of voting will determine the four finalists. The fourth and final round of voting will determine the winner which will be announced on national television December 5, 2012.

Jordan Poyer was also recently named to the watch lists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Jim Thorpe Award. The Nagurski Award is presented annually to the nation's top defensive player, the Thorpe Award to the country's best defensive back.

Poyer is also on the watch list for the Lott Trophy.

Poyer was second team All-Pac-12 selection last season on defense after posting 57 tackles, 12 pass deflections and four interceptions. He also averaged 14.1 yards per punt return and 22.7 yards per kickoff return.
