Position: Wide Receiver
Location: Sandy (Utah) Alta
Weight: 207 pounds
Ranking: Two-star, ranked #222 nationally at wide receiver
Recruiting: Barker chose UCLA over offers from Utah, Hawaii, and Utah State.
The Scouting Report: Barker's reported size of 6'4" might be a bit of a stretch. He's got a bit of a fro that adds an inch or so. Probably closer to 6'3." 40 time is more like 4.55, but he's faster than he may appear on film. Needs to add some upper body bulk and strength, but has a frame that probably puts him around 220 in college. I wouldn't say he's raw, but isn't overly polished either. Initial burst off the line isn't great, but once he gets going, can really fly. Is patient with the ball in his hands, using blockers well, which makes him deadly. Breaks tackles and is very shifty for someone his size. Route running isn't crisp and will need to be shored up at the next level. Isn't just a traditional deep threat that goes up and gets it over smaller defenders that might be expected for someone his size, but instead is at his best once the ball is in his hands. Could be used in a variety of ways for UCLA, but might be best working at the Y spot.
Overall Analysis: Barker is a solid pickup for UCLA. After his junior season, Barker was a fringe non-BCS level prospect, but he's turned himself into arguably the top offensive weapon in the state of Utah this season after posting 60 catches for 1,183 yards and 13touchdowns. Barker was offered by Utah a few weeks before the UCLA offer, and was given a week to pull the trigger. He elected not to, and it's UCLA's gain as they grab the best receiver prospect out of the beehive state in years.
