Beavs blow out Grambling State, move to 5-2

ROBERTO NELSON LED THE CHARGE

IT WASN'T A bad game plan. Grambling State was going to take away the paint, pack the middle and the medium-range shots of Oregon State. Of course, that meant the Beavs would have some good looks from outside. OSU ended the suspense early, busting out to 9-0 and 12-3 leads on quick three-pointers and won easily 85-54.

Roberto Nelson had a season-high 26 points Saturday on 9-of-13 shooting. Ahmad Starks added 17 points and Eric Moreland tuned in a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds for Oregon State (5-2). Moreland's point total tied a career high. Nelson set a new career high of his own with nine field goals and tied another mark with five treys. Oregon State led 18-3 less than six minutes into the game. Still, there were some things to nitpick. Oregon State shot 42 percent from the floor (29 of 69). And the Beavs' were a lackluster 16 of 29 at the free-throw line. Then again, it's hard to complain about a game where the Beavers led by as many as 41 points in the second half.
