Del Rio makes surprise decision
Luke Del Rio turned down an opportunity to play for Oregon State, who had made him their top quarterback priority and will instead walk on to Alabama. Del Rio took an official visit to Oregon State last month and took unofficial visits to to see the Beavers once again along with Alabama earlier this week. The former Oklahoma State commit said the Tide just offered too much to turn down. "I didn't want to base my decision solely on if I had a scholarship or not," Del Rio said. "I loved my visit to Alabama this week and everything just felt right there. I'm not afraid to work for a scholarship once I get there and I just felt Bama was the best fit for me athletically, socially, academically and geographically. I really missed the South a lot." Del Rio said he was set to head to Oregon State prior to taking the visit to Alabama. "I really thought I would be going to Oregon State, I liked it there a lot and love the coaches," Del Rio said. "My mom is the one who actually made me to visit Alabama and once I got there, I realized it was where I fit in best and where I belonged. I know they have other quarterbacks there but like I said, I'm not afraid to compete for a spot. I'm just very excited about this decision and can't wait to get out there and compete."
