OSU's recruiting ranking an eye opener

THE 2013 RECRUITING YEAR for Oregon State began with silence – the Beavs didn't gain their first commit until June, causing more than a little consternation for Beaver fans. But with just a little over a week before Signing Day, the recruiting year looks to end with OSU signing one of their highest rated classes -- ever.

Eight days before Letter of Intent Day, Oregon State has 21 known commitments and holds the No. 38 ranked class in the nation according to Scout.com.

Since Scout.com came into existence with the 2002 class, Oregon State's highest ranking ever was No. 34, in 2004.

The No. 38 ranking looks even better considering the Beavs have only 21 commitments at present. In 2004, the Beavs had 28 in the class.

The biggest difference that pops out? The 3-star recruit. Whereas in years past the 2-star commits would pepper Oregon State's list, this class has an absolute plethora of 3-star prospects.

Indeed, 17 of the 21 are rated three stars in Oregon State's class. Three are ranked two stars and one, CB Dashon Hunt, is ranked four stars.

OSU recruiting rankings through the years:
