Beav RB will transfer

OREGON STATE running back Malcolm Agnew, who was the starter in 2011 before being passed on the depth chart by Storm Woods and Terron Ward this past season, is transferring to Southern Illinois, the Saluki Athletic Department announced Monday.

Malcolm Agnew's brother Ray is a Salukis fullback.

SIU coach Dale Lennon announced Monday the addition of Agnew to his Missouri Valley Conference program.

Agnew will be a junior for the 2013 season. Agnew has three years to play two seasons but will be eligible to play this fall and preserve his redshirt since Southern Illinois is a Football Championship Subdivision school.

The Beavers return Storm Woods and Terron Ward this spring, along with Chris Brown, who redshirted as a freshman last season.

In two seasons at Oregon State, he rushed for 692 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Included was a 223-yard, three-touchdown performance in his first collegiate game in 2011.

But he experienced hamstring and injury issues almost immediately after arriving at Oregon State.

Agnew was a former track sprinter at De Smet Jesuit High School in St. Louis.
