OREGON STATE HAS SCORED a speedster and all-purpose yardage machine in Xavier Hawkins out of Tennessee. The 5-8, 165-pounder pulled the trigger a few days after his official visit to Corvallis.

Xavier Hawkins out of Knoxville's Fulton High racked up the yardage this season.

And then he racked up some more.

Hawkins posted an impressive 2,329 all-purpose yards -- and 37 touchdowns -- his senior year. he helped lead Fulton to an undefeated 15-0 reacord and a second straight 4A state title.

Hawkins verballed to the Beavs late Tuesday night according to the Knoxville News Sentinel and several other reports. He projects at receiver for the Beavs but it's widely thought OSU will give him a long look as a return man as well.

Hawkins had 1,195 receiving yards his senior season, along with 684 yards on the ground. He earned the 4A BlueCross Bowl offensive MVP after his four TD performance.

Hawkins chose the Beavers over offers from Austin Peay, Campbell, Chattanooga and Tennessee-Martin.
