BASEBALL: No. 1 Beavs drop finale, series

OREGON STATE'S BATS have suddenly gone cold. The top-ranked Oregon State baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision - and the three-game series -- to USC Sunday at Dedeaux Field. The game marked the regular season finale for both clubs. Oregon State finished with a 42-12 overall record and 23-7 mark in Pac-12 play.

Oregon State will now wait to find out its postseason details. The 16 host sites will be announced at 6 p.m. PT Sunday.

The entire field will be revealed at 9 a.m. PT Monday on ESPNU.

In its last seven games, Oregon State has scored as many as three runs only once. They are averaging 1.85 runs over that stretch.

On Sunday, Oregon State and USC traded unearned runs early on. USC (29-24, 16-14) scored in the first on a sacrifice fly. The Beavers evened the score in the third when Michael Howard doubled and Jeff Hendrix scored from first after an errant throw by USC right fielder Omar Cotto Lozada.

The Trojans went up for good 2-1 in the fifth.

USC later added to its lead with a two-out RBI double.

Andrew Moore started for Oregon State and took the loss, dropping to 5-5 on the year. He allowed four hits and two runs – one earned – in 4 2/3 innings of work. Recommended Stories
