Riley: Beaver D strong down the middle

Riley: Beaver D strong down the middle

WITH THE UNCERTAINTY surrounding the offensive line and the running backs, how heavily will Oregon State rely on their defense at the start of this season? Mike Riley was asked that question.

“Well, you know, I would like to think with the experience we have at linebacker, three senior linebackers and two senior safeties that that gives us that right down the middle streak,” said Mike Riley during the interview session at Pac-12 Media Day. “I actually think the real strength of our defensive line will be on our interior too. I really like the looks of that. We've got good players there, and we've added a guy named Jalen Grimble that I think will be a factor.”

And as for that offensive line, what would be the ideal makeup?

For starters, Isaac Seumalo would be at guard, not center.

“(I’d) have one of those new guys (Bobby Keenan or converted tight ends Dustin Stanton or Will Hopins) play left tackle,” said Riley. “I'd have (Sean) Harlow at left guard, Grant Bays and Josh Mitchell, either one of those guys at center, and Isaac at right guard, and Gavin Andrews at right tackle. That's probably how it would look.”
