Sooner rather than later for OSU LB

WHEN JUCO LINEBACKER Kyle Haley verbally committed to the Beavs in April, there was an outside chance, since he was a full qualifier out of high school, that the Beavs could bring him now rather than in 2015. That’s no longer a long shot proposition and has instead become a reality.

Kyle Haley is coming to Oregon State now and will become part of the 2014 class, the Oregonian reported.

His arrival likely signals that DT Kyle Peko will not gain academic clearance, with Haley assumedly taking Peko’s spot in the Beavs’ scholarship match. But the latest from Mike Riley, last week, was that he had no update on Peko, so the door might not be completely shut.

Haley, likely an outside linebacker at OSU, looks to provide depth at a position where there already is a good deal of it.

Oregon State has three senior starters in Michael Doctor, Jabral Johnson and D.J. Alexander, with Rommel Mageo, Darrell Songy and Caleb Saulo all vying for playing time behind them.

Haley posted 56 tackles with 3.5 sacks last season at Golden West CC.

He has 4-to-play-3 for the Beavs.
