Never underestimate the power of pride
Never say never.
Not when it's Oregon State and Washington.
Not if the scene is a balmy night in the bucolic Willamette Valley or a gloomy
afternoon on the glistening shores of Lake Washington...Jeff

Reggie who?
Washington wide receiver Charles Frederick, relegated to second fiddle behind
highly touted teammate Reggie Williams for much of his career, made his own
bid for Husky football immortality on Saturday in a 38-17 blowout of Oregon
State at Reser Stadium.
Frederick had nine receptions for 217 yards and touchdowns on plays covering
87 and 35 yards. He added a third touchdown on an 86-yard punt return to stake
his claim to Pac-10 Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week...Brooks

Huskies strike blow to Beavers
Regarded as one of the premier wide receivers in the nation, Washington’s
Reggie Williams drew plenty of attention Saturday night from Oregon State.
But the Beavers had no answers for his less-heralded teammate, and they paid
the price.
Wide receiver Charles Frederick accumulated 371 all-purpose yards and scored
three touchdowns in Washington’s 38-17 upset of the Beavers before a sold
out crowd of 37,034 at Reser Stadium...Gary

Beavers' hard landing erases week of preparation
Is this is how 101/2-point favorites play at home?
After a week off?
"We practice for two weeks," Oregon State quarterback Derek Anderson
said. "We should have been ready for this game."
They weren't...Paul

A reversal of fourtune
Oregon State could have moved to 3-0 in the Pacific-10 Conference. The Beavers
could have set up a juicy showdown of conference unbeatens with Washington State.
Oregon State could have gone into Pullman, Wash., with a front-running Heisman
Trophy candidate to sweeten the intrigue.
But the accelerating Beavers hit a trap Saturday, and now they will have to
do things the hard way...Rachael

Collapse in Corvallis

snapping the Beavers' four-game winning streak.

So much for the Heisman -- Huskies shut down Jackson, OSU in
38-17 win
Washington receiver Reggie Williams is expected to be a first-round NFL draft
choice come next April, but he took a backseat to a teammate Saturday night
at Reser Stadium.
Charles Frederick had the game of his life and one of the best in Pac-10 history,
amassing 371 yards in all-purpose yardage in the Huskies' 38-17 victory over
Oregon State...Kerry

Jackson still the best, but no Heisman
D uring ABC's telecast of the California-UCLA game Saturday, the topic turned
to the Heisman Trophy race. Broadcasters Keith Jackson, celebrating his 75th
birthday, and Dan Fouts said the best college football player in the land was
Oregon State running back Steven Jackson.
That was the first clue the Oregon State wagon would turn into a pumpkin against
the Washington Huskies...Brian

Frederick leads Huskeis past Beavers
All the anger the Washington Huskies had built up during an offseason of turmoil
and a half-season of disappointment seemed to come pouring out here last night.
The unsuspecting victims were the Oregon State Beavers, whose fans were already
looking forward to a first-place showdown at Washington State next week...Bob

Huskies' line slows Jackson's action
Steven Jackson needed only 61 yards last night to become the leading rusher
in the nation, based on average yards per game. It seemed like a no-brainer.
After all, this was the same Oregon State tailback who hadn't rushed for less
than 100 yards a game all season. The same guy whose name has been listed on
Heisman watch lists throughout the country.
He made it all look so easy. Until he faced Washington...Jeannine

UW 38, OSU 17
Charles Frederick apparently is healthy, and suddenly so is Washington.
Frederick, the Huskies, er, "other" receiver, was expected to have
a breakout season, but he's struggled with consistency and flu-like symptoms
the past couple of weeks.
Sort of like the Huskies...Ted

UW gets uplifting win
After half a season of shooting themselves in the foot, the Washington Huskies
finally got a shot in the arm Saturday night.
The Huskies started to turn around a season that looked to be hopelessly slipping
away just a week ago by upsetting No. 22 Oregon State, 38-17, in front of 37,034
fans in Reser Stadium...Craig
