FOOTBALL BYTES

  • Oregon State released the spring football schedule this week. The first practice is slated for April 1 with the spring scrimmage to be played on May 1.  An additional scrimmage will be played on April 3.  All practices are open to public..full schedule.
     
  • Game times for the Temple and New Mexico game have been tentatively set for 1 p.m.
     
  • OSU has raised $17 million so far for the expansion of Reser Stadium.  Their goal is to raise $32 million.  Despite the funding being slightly behind, OSU athletic director Bob De Carolis expects to break ground on the project in May or June..more
     
  • Former Beaver strong safety Calvin Carlyle signed with the Green Bay Packers as a free agent...more
     
  • Dwan Edwards and James Newson have been performing well during practices for the Senior Bowl, which is going to be played this Saturday on ESPN starting at 3:00 PM. theNFLexperts.com have been taking notes at the practices; click here to read their comments.
     
  • ESPN's Mel Kiper has Steven Jackson going to New England at #21 and Dwan Edwards going to Seattle at #23 in his mock draft.
     
  • James Alder of About.com has Jackson going to the Steelers with the #11 pick, Edwards going to the Cowboys at #22, and Newson going to the Broncos at #57...more
     
  • The Gazette-Times reported that former OSU defensive line coach Mike Waufle (1990-91) was named the new defensive line coach for the New York Giants. He had held a similar position with the Oakland Raiders.

BASKETBALL BYTES

  • Forward Nick DeWitz joined the basketball team this week as a walk-on.   DeWitz was recruited by John while the OSU head coach was still at the University of Arizona.   Nick had trouble qualifying and never made it to Arizona.  He played JC ball in Utah before transferring to Iowa before coming to Corvallis...Oregonian | Gazette-Times

Moments after Tuesday's practice ended, Oregon State men's basketball coach Jay John extended a hand to his newest player and said, "Welcome to Corvallis."
