Pac-10 Tournament Update

Oregon State will try to scramble back to the eighth seed
position for the Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament and in the process end a
dubious streak (12 straight wins by Cal) when it concludes its 2003-2004 road
schedule Saturday at California. The Beavers are currently ninth (top-8
advance) at 5-10 in league play, one game behind Washington State. If the
Beavers catch WSU they would have the edge in the tiebreaker by virtue of
sweeping the Cougars this season. WSU is at Arizona Saturday, and then hosts
the Bay Area schools next week. The Bears are currently the fourth seed, but
trail second seed Washington by just one game. Cal travels to Seattle
Thursday.
Notes from the Corvallis contest

David Lucas lead the Beavers in scoring with 25 and in
rebounding with nine. The Bears were led by Amit Tamir who poured in 20,
including 6 of 10 from three point range.

Lucas had six of the Beavers ten turnovers.

Leon Powe made 10 of 16 from the free throw line while also
grabbing a game high 14 rebounds.

OSU hit 43.1% from the field while Cal made 53.6% of their
shots.

Amit Tamir had 20 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead California to a
88-74 victory over Oregon State Saturday night.
The Golden Bears (9-9, 5-4 Pacific 10) have won three of their last four and
extended their winning streak over the Beavers to 12 straight game...Beavers
stumble against Cal
in Berkeley...
Joe Shipp scored a career-high 35 points as California defeated Oregon State
for the ninth straight time, 78-73 Saturday night. Against the Pac-10 conference's
top-ranked defense, Shipp made 12-of-16 shots, including 4-for-5 on 3-pointers.
Cal scored just once in the first 3:42, but then went on a 13-0 run capped by
consecutive 3-pointers by Brian Wethers, Amit Tamir and Shipp, giving the Bears
a 15-6 lead with 12:15 left in the first half. Recap

No more Arizona. Stanford's gone, too. That leaves California as the highest
seeded team remaining in the Pac-10 Conference tournament after the upset-filled

Leon Powe broke out of a
two-week shooting slump with 20 points, 11 rebounds and a key block in overtime
to help California snap a three-game losing streak with an 85-81 overtime win
over Oregon on Thursday night.
Powe, the Bears' leading scorer, averaged less than eight points during
California's three-game losing streak. But he came up big in overtime with a
pair of free throws and the block against Luke Jackson that preserved an 82-79
lead with 55 seconds to play...Bears

- Cal has a 12-game winning streak versus OSU. The Beavs have not won
in Berkeley since 1995, but did win in Oakland in 1998. Cal's 12-game
winning streak over OSU is the fourth-longest current streak in the Pac-10.

A.J. Diggs, Conor Famulener, Gabriel Hughes and Amit Tamir will be playing
