Beavers make it look difficult, but get their first win 17-7
Oregon State won its first game of the season Saturday, beating New Mexico on
a wet, cold, miserable late-summer afternoon at Reser Stadium. The real question
was this: How in the world could the final score have been only 17-7?...more

It wasn’t pretty, but Beavers will take the victory
Mike Riley has seen more than his fair share of football games in his life,
but Saturday’s experience might take the prize as the biggest head-scratcher
of them all.
It’s difficult to imagine a football team doing more and accomplishing
less than Riley’s Beavers did in a 17-7, home-opening victory over New
Mexico...more

Flags, fumbles and Lobos can't beat Beavers
Oregon State coach Mike Riley didn't know what to make of an ugly 17-7 win over
New Mexico on Saturday at Reser Stadium. He just knew he saw 31/2 hours of very
strange football.
"I don't know if I've ever been in a game like that," Riley said
after OSU (1-2) dominated the Lobos (1-2) statistically but couldn't put them
away until Alexis Serna -- last seen with his face buried in the mud at Louisiana
State after missing an extra point attempt in overtime -- kicked a 35-yard field
goal with 3:04 left...more

This kick was worth much more than three points
When Alexis Serna jogged onto the field with three minutes left in an ugly game
against New Mexico, the crowd at Reser Stadium buzzed.
Oregon State had dominated the Lobos but had made enough mistakes to keep
New Mexico in the game...more

Kicker Serna hits key field goal to quiet critics
Call it sweet redemption for Oregon State place-kicker Alexis Serna.
Few kickers in college football received more notoriety than Serna after he
missed an extra point Sept. 4 at Louisiana State that would have forced a second
overtime in the season opener...more
from the Statesman Journal.
Oregon State dominates New Mexico
Derek Anderson passed for 274 yards, Dwight Wright ran for 108 yards and Oregon
State held off New Mexico 17-7 Saturday, despite more kicking problems for the
Beavers.
Oregon State (1-2) outgained New Mexico 398-114 and had the ball for more than
38 minutes, but John Dailey missed field goals of 43 and 34 yards. Dailey replaced
Alexis Serna as the Beavers No. 1 kicker after Serna missed three extra points
in a 22-21 opening loss at LSU...more

K.O. in Corvallis
There is no nice way to put this; the Lobo offense was a stinker today. Not
your average mellow stinker, but a real P-U. For the Lobo offense to click it
all starts up front and that is where we start tonight up front with The Hitmen...more

Beavers pick up much-needed win
Weather conditions were ugly Saturday afternoon and so was much of the play
on the field. But it didn't matter to the Oregon State football team; it was
the result that mattered at this point.
The Beavers dominated New Mexico on a rainy day at Reser Stadium, but only
came away with only a 17-7 victory in their final non-conference game of the
season...more

Serna finally kicks monkey off his back
The Beaver Nation doesn't eat its young.
A standing ovation greeted Alexis Serna on Saturday when he trotted out onto
the soggy Reser Stadium turf to attempt another crucial, fourth-quarter kick.
Oregon State fans who had ample reason to derisively hoot at the redshirt freshman
place-kicker for his infamous meltdown at LSU two weeks ago instead cheered
with support as he positioned himself for another dance with destiny...more

Newton shows no signs of rust
When a woozy Joe Newton was helped off the blue Boise State turf during the
second quarter of Oregon State's loss to the Broncos last week, it looked as
if he might not be getting back on the field for a while.
Newton suffered a mild concussion and was kept out of practice early in the
week. When he was allowed back Thursday, it was out of full gear and away from
contact...more
