It's Official: Wheels have come off Cougar train
A driving rain fell upon Reser Stadium throughout the morning hours. Just before
kickoff, sunshine filled the sky and Oregon State came out and warmed up right
along with the sun. The Cougs played most of the game as if stuck in a dank, dark
fog. When it was all said and done, Washington State got beaten in every phase
of the game on this Saturday, falling to the Beavers 38-19.
Even when things went right, they went wrong...more

the Cougars defensively in a 38-19 victory over their Northwest rivals...more
from Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune.

Brink disappointed in debut as starter
After scrambling away from Oregon State's defense all afternoon, Alex Brink
scrambled some more after the game, searching for words to assess his performance
Saturday.

the kind of homecoming the former Sheldon High School star quarterback had envisioned...more
from Adam Jude of the Eugene Register Guard.
Washington State loses more than game

from Nick Dashel of The Columbian.
Cole's dream run tramples Cougars
The hole opened before Oregon State running back Ryan Cole, and all he had to
do was race through the clear spaces for his first collegiate touchdown.
No cutbacks or jukes were required, just a straight sprint for Cole, a sophomore
running back from South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard...more
from Kevin Hampton of the Seattle Times.
Little help for Brink in first start
On a day evocative of the bad old days of Washington State football, it takes
the current-day vernacular to describe the state of the Cougars.
It is what it is...more
from Bud Withers from the Seattle Times.
Cougars' bowl hopes dashed in loss to Oregon State
Instead of Washington State football fans heading south for a fourth consecutive
bowl game, this season appears headed south.
In a matchup of teams suddenly moving in different directions, Oregon State
completed its first sweep of WSU and Washington since 1974 by using big plays
to thrash the Cougars 38-19 before 36,265 in Reser Stadium...more
from Craig Smith of the Seattle Times.

dominating victory over a historical nemesis from the other side of the Columbia...more
from Brooks Hatch of the Gazette Times.
History maker
Derek Anderson is on the verge of becoming the top passer in Oregon State history.
With a 15-yard screen to Dwight Wright early in the game, Anderson jumped past
Erik Wilhelm into second on the list at 9,627 yards and should pass Jonathan Smith's mark of 9,680 yards this week...more
from Kevin Hampton of the Gazette Times.
Loss puts damper on Brink's first start
Alex Brink stood in a dim, cramped hallway in the bowels of Gill Coliseum, blanketed
by more than a dozen reporters.

State and was answering questions just outside the Cougars' locker room. And
they weren't exactly questions Brink wanted to answer...more
from Joe Freeman of The Oregonian.
Ground game takes advantage of the blitz
The call was perfect, the blocking was perfect and the run was perfect, producing
a dramatic touchdown that helped Oregon State defeat Washington State 38-19.
The only problem for Dwight Wright was that he was on the sideline. His backup,
Ryan Cole, was the tailback who ran 79 yards -- OSU's longest run of the season...more
from Mike Tokito of The Oregonian.
Beavers win back fans
For the second consecutive home game, Oregon State fans poured into the parking
lot early in the fourth quarter at Reser Stadium. But this time they had smiles
on their faces. They mostly were praising Beavers quarterback Derek Anderson,
not burying him. And they were talking about something that seemed far-fetched
three weeks ago after a 49-7 loss to California: a chance to get back to .500
with a win this week at Arizona.
In the man-bites-dog department, OSU had a relentless running game Saturday
against Washington State: Ryan Cole had the first 100-yard rushing game of his
career with 104 yards and Dwight Wright ran for 79 yards in the Beavers' surprisingly
easy 38-19 win over the Cougars...more
from Paul Buker of The Oregonian.
