Al Simmons, who coached at Oregon State from 2001-02 under Dennis Erickson, was recently hired by Dirk Koetter and Arizona State as their
cornerbacks coach. While at OSU Simmons helped mold All-American Dennis Weathersby. He was also instrumental in Oregon State leading the conference
in pass defense in 2002.
Fred Anderson, who was a three year starter on the defensive line for the
Beavers from 1973-75, is just one of a handful of player to have played for both
the Seahawks and the Steelers. Anderson transferred to Prairie View A&M before
his senior season after legendary coach Dee Andros was forced to retire.
Pittsburgh's full-time trainer is a record setting Oregon State graduate.
Ariko Iso became the first full-time female trainer in the NFL in 2002 and
is still the only one. She attended OSU from 1989-1992.
Earlier in the month former Oregon State receiver Chad Johnson gave
Seahawk running back Shaun Alexander some advice for a touchdown celebration in
the Super Bowl.
"OK, here's a dance I would do if I was Shaun," Johnson said. "I was going to do
this myself if we had made it to Detroit. Take the pylon and then put the
football on top of it at a tilt and hold it up so it looks
just like the Lombardi Trophy."
Former Oregon State quarterback Ian Shields (1991-93) has been hired as
the head football coach at Eastern Oregon University. Shields ran the option
attack under Jerry Pettibone. He was the offensive coordinator at Cal
Poly before taking the head coaching position at EOU.
Former Oregon State defensive lineman Greg Marshall (1975-77) has been
hired as the defensive coordinator/linebacker coach of the CFL's Winnipeg Blue
Bombers.
Former Oregon State head coach Dennis Erickson (1999-2002) was hired by
the University of Idaho as their head football coach. Erickson had been out of
work after he got fired from the head coaching job in San Francisco.
Clarence "Nub" Beamer Jr. who played for Tommy Prothro at Oregon State
University from 1955-57, turned seventy this month.
He was a backup fullback for the 1956 team that lost to Iowa in the Rose
Bowl. Beamer moved into a more significant role in 1957 and 1958. His fondest
memories are defecting USC 20-0 in Portland and Washington Stae 39-25 as a
junior. In those games he rushed form 245 yards and five touchdowns.

Wide receiver Mike Hass received his Biletnikoff trophy in the middle of
February and had to opportunity to talk with Fred Biletnikoff.

Former OSU defensive coordinator Craig Bray (2000-02) has been hired as
the University of Minnesota's secondary coach.
Noel Mazzone has been hired as the New York Jets wide receivers coach. At
Oregon State he coached the running backs and special teams in 2002 under
Erickson.
Former Oregon State receiver James Newson and offensive lineman David Lose
have joined the Arena Football League 2's Stockton Lightning.
Former offensive line coach Mark Weber (1987-90) was hired by North Carolina as their offensive line coach. After he left OSU he spent time at
UCLA and Fresno State.
Division II Central Connecticut State named Jeff McInerney their head coach.
McInerney coached the defensive ends in 1998 under Mike Riley.
