News and notes from the past week about Oregon State athletics.

  • James Allen who was drafted by the New Orleans Saints is impressing the coaches. An article on the Sporting News by Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times said, "Allen, a third-round pick from Oregon State, has come on strong in recent workouts and will push for playing time at a position desperate for youth and athletic ability. Allen (6-2, 240) has the size and speed to be a playmaker once he gets comfortable with the scheme. He projects to be a starter no later than the 2003 season."

  • Jeff Welsch of the Mid Valley Sunday wrote an excellent article on Oregon State JUCO players graduating.

  • Ken Simonton received some favorable words from the official 49er website early this week.. More info can be found at the Offcial 49er Website.

  • A few days after the favorable comments about Simonton, the 49ers dropped him
