JAKE GELAKOSKA RESIDES in northwest Washington but he's seeing plenty of interest from the Beaver state. The QB holds an Oregon State offer and is keeping in very close contact with the Beavers' coaches. Now, the other school in Oregon is showing the 6-4, 215 pound quarterback the recruiting love, letting him know this past weekend in Eugene that he's their "No. 1".
The Civil War between the Beavs and Ducks won't take place until November but rest assured there will be a few shots fired in the recruiting battles before Nov. 25 in Corvallis.
One such skirmish taking shape involves Gelakoska, with both OSU and UO in early on the Mill Creek. Wash., quarterback.
Oregon State has offered. Oregon has not, but Gelakoska spent this past weekend at the NIKE combine and at Oregon's half day camp. Suffice to say, he impressed. And improved his stock with the Duck coaches.
"They said that they signed three quarterbacks last year and said I'm their No. 1 right now --- They just want to make sure they're going to offer a quarterback this class," said Gelakoska. "They said they're probably going to but they just want to wait and make sure.
"Bellotti and the quarterbacks coach (Gary Crowton) both said they liked me a lot, so it was good I went down there. I threw better at the Oregon camp - I didn't throw bad at the NIKE camp, but I got a lot more reps in at the Oregon camp."
GELAKOSKA WASN'T ABLE
to make Oregon State's half day camp on Friday because of school conflicts at Jackson High but he's kept in touch over the past few weeks with his leader, the Beavs.
"I call Bruce Read all the time, I talk to him pretty often," said Gelakoska. "I like him a lot. I like him and (Mike) Riley a lot."
The fastest 40 time at the NIKE campo Gelakoska who has clocked a 4.52 in the 40.
AS A JUNIOR
, 'Broadway Jake' was first-team All-WesCo, throwing for 1,938 yards. He completed 136 of 275 attempts with 17 TDs and 6 INTs.
He also had seven rushing TDs and 360 yards at Jackson in 2005, averaging 229.8 yards of total offense a game.
There are over five minutes of highlight tape on Gelakoska's player page.
