Many citizens of Beaver Nation were thrilled to welcome Dennis Erickson back

It was game day, so state troopers Dan Hermensen and Frank Hagen reported for
work at Reser Stadium at 6 o'clock Saturday night. They carried guns. They wore
bullet-proof vests. These were the men charged with protecting Dennis Erickson
from Oregon State fans while he walked to and from the visiting locker room.

A shutout for Beavers*
Dennis Erickson's return to Reser Stadium won't go down as one of his fondest
coaching memories. The former Oregon State football coach watched glumly from
the sideline Saturday night as his former team pounded his current team, the
Idaho Vandals, 38-0.
It was the first shutout for Oregon State since the infamous 0-0 tie with Oregon
in the 1983 Civil War game, and the first shutout for the Beavers at home since

Suspensions delayed, officials work OSU game
Line judge Manuel Alonzo, back judge Steve Hudson and field judge Daniel Spriesterbach
worked Saturday night's Oregon State-Idaho game at Reser Stadium even though
all three drew one-game suspensions from the Pacific-10 Conference for their
work in last week's Oregon-Oklahoma game in Eugene.
A Pac-10 spokesman said this week that there wasn't enough time to rearrange
schedules and find replacements, and that the officials in question will serve
