The majority of the plays went to the younger players, but quarterbacks Sean Canfield and Lyle Moevao continued their battle for
the starting quarterback spot early on.
Each played with the first and second team offense. Canfield finished the day
completing nine of of 14 passes for 80 yards and one touchdown. Moevao completed
seven of 19 attempts with no touchdowns. Each quarterback threw an interception.
WR Brandon Powers had the days first touchdown on a 21-yard
reception from Canfield. WR Darrell Catchings continued his
strong showing catching two touchdown passes, one from Ryan Gunderson
and the other from Breenan Sim.
Running backs Patrick Fuller and Ryan McCants
led all running backs with 22 yards on eight and seven carries respectively.
Fuller also added a touchdown.
Safeties Daniel Drayton and Bryan Payton
each had an interception. Freshman linebacker David Pa'aluhi III
had an interception as well.
Many first teamers - including Yvenson Bernard (RB), Sammie Stroughter (WR), Derrick Doggett (LB) and Gerard Lee (DT) - did not participate in the scrimmage due to injuries or
a coaches decision.

On goals for the scrimmage - “Our goal
was to get the ones some play, at least twenty, and then get the twos more than
that. We’ve got a 105 guys right now, so its more than in spring practice,
so it’s a lot of guys first football in a long time, and a lot of practicing.
So this is a chance for them to play a lot. I think it went pretty well.”
On deciding on a quarterback in the fall - "I'll tell
you this - I will hopefully not do this ever again, go into fall camp like this.
I don't think it's hurt our team. It was the right thing to do with these two
guys because it was ill-defined, but I'm going to try and get this thing done
soon."
