Report: Stroughter to take indefinite leave

OSU WIDE RECEIVER SAMMIE STROUGHTER will take an indefinite leave of absence from Oregon State due to personal issues, according to an ESPN article posted late Tuesday morning.

Joe Schad cited an unnamed source in the ESPN article.

Stroughter, who led the Pac-10 with more than 1,200 receiving yards in 2006 has missed the last 12 days of fall camp in Corvallis. A ubdued Stoughter did make a brief appearance at Saturday's scrimmage, but left before the session began and "looked tired" and "made little contact with teammates" according to media reports.

The senior, who does have a redshirt year available, had five receiving TDs and had become the top punt return threat in the league, taking back three punts to the house in '06.

Oregon State has cited privacy laws in not disclosing the issues surrounding Stroughter, and had asked reporters to keep their distance and respect Stroughter's privacy since at least Saturday.

ESPN reported in the article Stroughter has been dealing with grief issues following the loss of several people close to him, including two family members and a former assistant coach.
