Kahuku pipeline still flowing to OSU
the staff of BF.C
Posted Feb 11, 2008
SIGNING DAY is actually just the first day of a signing period where recruits can sign a Letter of Intent, the period running through April 1. Most send in their signed LOI on the first Wednesday in February but one who took a little extra time this year was Anthony Siilata. One day after Signing Day, he made it official to Oregon State.
, out of Kahuku, Hawaii, gives the Beavs some versatility -- he could play tight end, offensive line or defensive line.
At Kahuku, which has become a strong pipeline to Oregon State,
did their prep work at Kahuku, Siilata was moved from offensive guard to nose tackle during the season, while still playing tight end, and earned all-state honors.
Defense is where he might get his first look at OSU.
Scout.com's Chris Fetters reported late on Signing Day Siilata had inked his Letter of Intent to Oregon State but had not sent it in, with Kahuku coach Reggie Torres saying Siilata hadn't ruled out Utah and wanted some time to think on his decision.
But at 5:17 pm the following day according to the official OSU site, Siilata faxed it over and became a Beav.
A teammate of Siilata's, offensive lineman
, was said to be heavily leaning towards Oregon State in the days leading up to this past Wednesday but he appears now to be West Virginia bound.
Kemoeatu told the Honolulu Advertiser he was signing with WVU but his parents, who were out of town, had not signed the LOI as of last report.
Until a Letter of Intent signed by both prospect and a parent is received, Kemoeatu would remain a recruitable athlete.
Siilata, meanwhile, is headed to Corvallis. He was ranked the No. 55 best prospect in Scout.com's Northwest Hot 100 although the ranking lists him at offensive guard. He is described as having surprising athleticism for his size.
