Beavs look to regroup from Bruin loss

FEW EXPECTED OSU to give UCLA much trouble on Thursday night and with a short bench, it wasn't much of a contest. UCLA raced to a double digit lead and was never seriously challenged as they drubbed the Beavers, who sat two of their top players for disciplinary reasons, by a score of 84-49 in Los Angeles. Oregon State (6-20, 0-14) shot 34 percent in extending a school-record losing streak to 16.
Earlier this season, the main question was if Oregon State could play consistently over two halves and come up with a win. Most recently, however, Oregon State has played poorly from start to finish and Thursday's 35 point loss continued the trend.
The big question now is can Oregon State pull an upset and avoid becoming the first team in the Pac-10 to go 0-18 in league play. No school has gone winless since the Arizona schools joined the conference in 1978.
Josh Tarver
was the Beavers' high scorer on the night with 10 points, and said the Beavers as a team didn't stick to the game plan of controlling the tempo, getting back on defense and running the clock down on the offensive end.
"Guys don't listen," Tarver told reporters after the game. "If we had stuck to the game plan, it would have been a lot closer."
Interim Oregon State coach Kevin Mouton suspended senior forward
Marcel Jones
and freshman center
Sean Carter
prior to the tip for violation of team rules.
Mouton said the suspensions were not solely a result of last Friday's incidents before the Washington game but declined to offer specifics.
UCLA led by 22 points at the half, extending the margin to 71-37 with 7:21 left in the game.
Oregon State takes on USC on Saturday. The Ducks lost 81-75 to USC despite holding a 13-point lead in the second half.
After USC, the Beavers final three games of the regular season -- against Oregon, Arizona and ASU -- are all at home.
