OREGON STATE WAS left on the outside looking in when the 34 at large postseason baseball bids were given out on Memorial Day morning, and the two time defending NCAA champion's run is now officially over. The Beavs record on the year was 28-24 and it was the number of losses, said Larry Templeton, the chair of the selection committee, that kept them from a repeat bid.

The Beavs had enough quality wins this year, similar to last season, but it was the losses did them in, said Templeton.

"We were just a little concerned, they had some great wins but they also had some very difficult losses against some teams that we really questioned. Their 27 wins were probably pretty close to where they were last year but the 24 losses really kind of concerned the committee," said Templeton.

Oregon State has been to three straight postseasons, and have won it all the last two years.

The attention in the baseball program now turns to if coach Pat Casey returns next year. The OSU skipper has talked in recent days about new challenges and said he's been called in connection with openings at various programs.
