THE 2007 CIVIL WAR was destined to end this way. Despite racing out to a 21-7 lead, and looking ready to add on more, the first road team to win the Civil War in 11 years was going to be tested. And whoever came out on top in this double overtime thriller was going to hold the 2007 title of the Northwest's best team.

THE SET UP:
Oregon State took control early early, with Matt Sieverson making a beeline for the end zone on a 38-yard dash to put the Beavs up 7-0.

An 8-play, 66 yard drive by OSU was followed by a Derrick Doggett 28-yard interception return, and Oregon State was up 21-7 early in the second quarter.

But then officials ruled John Reese never had possession of a TD pass, the subsequent field goal attempt was wide and instead of Oregon State taking a commanding 28-7 lead, the Ducks grabbed the momentum, scoring 21 unanswered points before the Beavs tied the game early in the fourth quarter.

Back and forth it went over the final 15 minutes, neither team able to cash in. With a minute remaining, the Ducks blocked a field goal attempt and started to move downfield. As the Ducks' Matt Evensen missed a 53-yard field goal attempt, the Beavers were penalized 15 yards for roughing the kicker.

With 20 seconds left, the Ducks now had the ball on Oregon State's 21-yard line. A game winning field goal seemed imminent.

The Ducks looked to move the ball to the center of the field...

FINAL THOUGHT:
The Beavers became the first team to win on the road in the Civil War in 11 years. Jonathan Stewart gained 163 rushing yards in the game but his last carry as a Duck was when he was stopped for a loss by Dorian Smith and Keaton Kristick on fourth-and-1 from the 16 yard line. Stewart would turn pro shortly after. Oregon was set to play in the national title game if they could win their final three regular season games but three straight losses instead left them unranked before they rebounded to win their bowl game and climb back into the polls. The Beavers won six of seven of the final regular season games, and went on to best Maryland in the Emerald Bowl in San Diego, ending the 2007 season with a No. 25 ranking in the AP poll.
