Route 66 – Beavers kick Cougars while they're
down
It was the most points Oregon State has ever scored on a Pac-10 foe and the
highest-scoring output by a Beaver team since a 67-28 victory over Northern Illinois in 1996, during the Jerry Pettibone era.
Yet Oregon State’s 66-13 victory over Washington State Saturday at Reser
Stadium contained an element of suspense, if ever so brief ... more

Beavers in position for strong second half
After helping Oregon State wallop the ultimate Pac-10 pushover, Slade Norris
sniffed at the oddsmakers’ 30-point spread.
“On any given day, a team can be beaten,” the senior defensive
end said after the Beavers’ 66-13 win over Washington State. “You
have to come into every game ready to play your best. You might need it, no
matter who you’re playing." ... more

Cougars take hard feelings, big loss away from Corvallis

OSU strikes fast to cage Washington State
It didn't take long for the Oregon State offense to strike in its 66-13 win
over Washington State on Saturday at Reser Stadium. The Beavers forced WSU to
punt on its first possession, which Sammie Stroughter returned 29 yards to the
OSU 46-yard line. After a 24-yard reverse run by James Rodgers, Beavers quarterback
Lyle Moevao rolled out and found Stroughter for a 30-yard touchdown.
But the offense didn't stop there. On its second possession of the game, it
went 60 yards in five plays, taking only 1:53 to score. Jacquizz Rodgers highlighted
the drive with two long runs, including a 28-yarder. Moevao capped the drive
with another scoring strike, this time finding Shane Morales in the end zone
from 20 yards out ... more

Beavers get back on track with rout
For Jacquizz Rodgers, the question wasn't whether Oregon State would beat Washington
State, but by how much. The answer: Plenty.
"We knew this was a going to be a pretty easy win, so we put it on ourselves
to get better," the talented true freshman running back said after Oregon
State demolished the Cougars 66-13 Saturday night ... more

Moevao overcomes tough second quarter

Defense never let Cougars get started
There was a moment or two during Saturday’s game between Oregon State
and Washington State when it looked as if the Cougars had an opening.
Riding three interceptions in the second quarter, two that led to touchdowns,
the Cougars were down 24-13 and seemed to be in position for a run at an upset

Beavers take care of business
Stats were padded, reserves used and it’s hard to believe but the game
was even more lopsided than the score showed.

as the Beavers flexed their muscles as a 30-point favorite ... more

Oregon State by 30?
How about Oregon State by 53?
The Beavers shrugged off a lackadaisical second quarter and then poured it
on hapless Washington State 66-13 on Saturday in front of 45,289 at Reser Stadium,
the second-largest crowd since the stadium was expanded ... more

Another injury and Stroughter has big game
The miserable Washington State season took another blow Saturday when quarterback
Marshall Lobbestael was injured on the first drive of the fourth quarter.
Lobbestael, heavily pressured by OSU's defense all game and sacked five times,
suffered a strained left knee that will sideline him for four weeks. This on
a team that already lost its top two quarterbacks, senior Gary Rogers and junior
Kevin Lopina, to injuries ... more

Moevao promises to learn from second quarter
Lyle Moevao knows he will watch tape of the second quarter of Oregon State's

I could have done better and be able to learn from that," the junior quarterback

Cougs sink further into football abyss
The low rumble of warming buses growled outside Gill Coliseum. The Washington
State football contingent shambled toward them, angry, bitter, maybe a little
disillusioned. And, of course, injured.
Washington State's abyss grew deeper here Saturday, its season a bit more unbelievable.
Oregon State — Oregon State, for goodness' sakes, the program that hasn't
seen the Rose Bowl since early Lyndon Johnson — clowned the Cougars, 66-13

Late TD pass turns Cougs crimson
This one will be remembered for a while, for two reasons: Oregon State's 66-13
victory over Washington State marked its highest point total over a Pac-10 team,
and the Cougars felt the Beavers rubbed their faces in it with a 39-yard touchdown
pass midway through the fourth quarter.
One WSU assistant held his arms outstretched on the sideline as he looked over
at the Oregon State coaches. Another appeared to stare at the Beavers' sideline
after the score, which completed the final margin ... more

Run up, run down, Beavers run over Cougars
A blowout was expected and a blowout is what occurred. But at some point between
the predicted finish and the awful result, the Washington State Cougars were
foolishly allowed to think that they might be able to compete with Oregon State
for about a quarter of Saturday’s game at Reser Stadium.
Three second-quarter interceptions, one returned for a touchdown and another
leading to a touchdown, left the Cougars with a small sense of hope and a 24-13
deficit heading into halftime ... more

Another QB goes down – Lobbestael out
To see quarterback Marshall Lobbestael on the turf and writhing in pain shouldn’t
have come as much of a shock to Washington State football fans for two reasons:
• Consistently poor pass protection had led to Lobbestael getting hit
early and often against the Oregon State Beavers ... more
