BEAVER JACQUIZZ RODGERS has accomplished something no player ever has before in the history of the Pac-10. Not Marcus Allen, John Elway, Reggie Bush nor any of the Pac-10 greats who have come before him. Quizz has been selected both Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.

Jacquizz Rodgers, a true freshman from Richmond, Texas, became just the third freshman to rush for 1,000 yards in Conference history, accomplishing the feat in Week 9 against UCLA.

Quizz rushed for just shy of 100 yards in a Week 2 loss to Penn State and then exploded into the scene in Week 4 against USC, pounding out 186 yards and two touchdowns in Oregon State's 27-21 win over the No. 1-ranked Trojans.

Rodgers was injured early in the penultimate game of the regular season against Arizona and was sidelined for the Civil War. Despite missing nearly two full games, he still finished with 1,253 yards on 259 carries (4.8 avg.) and 11 touchdowns.

He has 29 receptions for 247 yards and one touchdown to give him an even 1,500 all-purpose yards for the season but just as key has been his blocking when he's not churning out yards.

Rodgers surpassed the 100-yard mark seven times and was named Pac-10 offensive player of the week three times and the national player of the week following his performance against USC. Rodgers becomes the first Oregon State player to be named Pac-10 offensive player of the year since the award was inaugurated in 1975 and just the second player of the year award winner overall from OSU, joining defensive end Bill Swancutt, who earned defensive player of the year honors in 2004.

The record for most player or co-player of the year awards in the Pac-10 is two -- the dual winners on offense are Charles White, USC, 1978, 79; John Elway, Stanford, 1980, 1981; Rueben Mayes, WSU 1984, 85; Matt Leinart, USC, 2003, 04; and Reggie Bush, USC, 2004, 05. On defense, Steve Emtman, UW, won the player or co-player of the year in the Pac-10 in 1990, 91.

Quizz, who suffered a shoulder strain in Week 11, is expected to be back in time for the Beavers' bowl game on Dec. 31. No. 24 Oregon State meets No. 18 Pitt in the Sun Bowl in El Paso.
