Quizz the Sporting News' Freshman of the Year
SPORTING NEWS' NATIONAL FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
By

Posted Dec 17, 2008
JACQUIZZ RODGERS today was named the Sporting News’ 2008 National Freshman of the Year. The publication previously named him their Pac-10 Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year. The Beaver running back rushed for a freshman record 1,263 yards despite missing nearly two full games.
It's the latest in a long line of awards for
Jacquizz Rodgers
this postseason, though most of the Beaver Nation these days are fixed upon whether Quizz will be able to play in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31.
The Beaver running back suffered an AC joint sprain in his shoulder on the Beavs' second possession in the Nov. 22 win over Arizona though in a radio interview this week, Quizz said he also suffered a broken bone in the shoulder.
The Beavs' No. 3 running back,
Jeremy Francis
, left the team this week to be with his ailing mother, leaving
Ryan McCants
, the Beavs' third leading rusher this season with 79 carries for 314 yards, the lone Beaver running back with experience if Quizz cannot go against Pitt in the Sun.
Rodgers is featured in the new issue of Sporting News magazine, on newsstands later this week. The magazine includes a “Quiz on ’Quizz,” with his brother, Oregon State’s
James Rodgers
, supplying the answers to the 10-question multiple-choice test.
NOTABLE NOTE:
In the Dec. 8 issue of the Sporting News, the magazine listed their top 99 NFL Draft prospects, including juniors.
Keenan Lewis
and
Brandon Hughes
made the list at Nos. 91 and 94, respectively. Conspicuous by their absence were
Sammie Stroughter
and
Andy Levitre
, the latter being one whose name has been oft-mentioned as the Beaver likely to go highest in the draft later this spring.
