Oregon State and Pittsburgh met...
Dec. 26, 2002 - Pittsburgh 38, Oregon State 13
Oregon State managed only three points in the second half against No. 24 Pittsburgh
as the Panthers held RB Steven Jackson, the nation's No. 4
rusher at the time, to just 33 yards on 19 carries vaulting Pittsburgh to a
38-13 victory.
WR James
Newson led all receivers with 10 catches for 165 yards and had one
amazing play where he kept his balance after being hit and raced 65-yards for
OSU's only touchdown of the game.
The teams were
tied at 10 at halftime, but an interception by QB Derek Anderson
on an attempted flea flicker on their first possession of the second half proved
costly. CB Tez Morris picked off the pass returning it to the
OSU23 and two plays later the Panthers were up by a touchdown.
The wheels started
to come off late in the third quarter as Shawn Robinson returned
a punt 66 yards for six and the defense gave up two rushing touchdowns in the
final 5:12.
QB Derek
Anderson competed 21 of 45 passes for 319 yards, one touchdown and
one interception in his first bowl appearance.
The Beaver offensive
line gave up five sacks while the team was whistled for nine penalties for 90
yards ... more from BF.com.

Oregon State played in a bowl game...
Dec. 28, 2007 - Oregon State 21, Maryland 14
With a struggling passing game the coaches put the offensive load on RB Yvenson
Bernard and WR James Rodgers as the two combined for
292 rushing yards.
Bernard, the game's
offensive MVP, ran for an Emerald Bowl record 177 yards and one touchdown on
38 carries just a little over a month after having knee surgery while Rodgers
ran for 115 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries.
QB Lyle
Moevao was knocked out in the first quarter with a hand injury after
completing 5 of 9 passes for 40 yards. Sophomore QB Sean Canfield
saw his first action since being injured in the USC game completing 8 of 14
for one touchdown and one interception.
After giving up
two first quarter touchdowns, a first this year, the defense got stronger in
the final three frames as they yielded just 224 total yards, including a measly
19 rushing yards, while limiting the Terrapins to just 2 of 11 on third downs.
LB Derrick
Doggett was named the game's defensive MVP after leading the team with
eight stops, including one sack ... more

Pittsburgh played in a bowl game...
Jan. 1, 2005 - Utah 35, Pittsburgh 7
Utah looked like a powerhouse that deserved a better final test to its BCS-busting
season.
Behind the cool
efficiency of Alex Smith, the Utes (No. 6 ESPN/USA Today; No.
5 AP) used their baffling spread offense and an underrated defense to dominate
Pittsburgh (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today; No. 19 AP) 35-7 in the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday
night.
Utah was a 16-point
favorite, the biggest margin of any of the bowls, and it was a safe bet ...

Pittsburgh played...
Dec. 6, 2008 in Eugene - Pittsburgh 34, Connecticut 10
If anyone was unsure before, Pitt's defense proved it can be a game-changer
with its performance against Connecticut during a 34-10 win Saturday at Rentschler
Field in East Hartford, Conn.
Pittsburgh (9-3),
which won nine regular-season games for the first time since 1982, accepted
a bid to the 75th annual Sun Bowl Dec. 31 in El Paso, Texas and have the defense
to thank for it. The Panthers collected five interceptions.
Redshirt freshman
outside linebacker Greg Williams had two picks, including one
he returned for a touchdown from 20 yards out. Sophomore safety Dom
DeCicco had his team-high fourth interception. Junior cornerback Aaron
Berry finally secured his second pick this season and returned it 52
yards. And junior cornerback Jovani Chappel added his second
pick ... more from PantherDigest.com.

Oregon State played...
Nov. 29, 2008 - #19 Oregon 65, #17 Oregon State 38
A DEFENSE THAT couldn't stop big play after big play. Successful halftime
adjustments by OSU on D, so key to the Beaver success this season, didn't materialize.
And the defense ultimately had few answers for the Oregon attack, Meanwhile
the Duck defense made enough plays with their backs up against the wall to win
big, 65-38, and deny the Beavs their third consecutive win in the Civil War.
The backbreaker
came at the end of the first half, with the Ducks scoring 14 points in a matter
or moments to go up by 27 points.
With Oregon up
23-10 and facing third and forever, the Beavs had used two timeouts to try and
get the ball back.
But Jeremiah
Johnson raced 83-yards on a simple dive play and the Ducks were up
30-10. With less than a minute to go, Oregon State stayed aggressive and went
up top but Lyle Moevao threw into double coverage and the Ducks
went pick-6 to build a 27 point lead and end the Beavs' Rose Bowl hopes ...
