  • The Oregon State football team will arrive in Phoenix on December 21.

  • CBS Sportline's Harmon Forecast has predicted a 29-23 Beaver victory in the Insight Bowl.

  • Steven Jackson is fourth in nation in rushing with 1,656 yards.

  • Bill Swancutt had 19.5 tackles for loss in 2002. Good enough for #2 all time at Oregon State.

  • OSU is ranked ninth in the nation in total defense allowing 293 yards per game.

  • Dennis Weathersby has started 26 straight games and broken up passes in 34 of the 47 games he has played in.

    Oregon State (8-4) vs. Pittsburgh (8-4)
    December 26, 7:30 p.m. ET, Phoenix, ESPN

    Why you should watch: Both defenses are excellent. The Panthers have an attacking unit headed by unheralded linebacker Gerald Hayes. The Beavers counter with linebacker Richard Seigler. This also will feature one of the best coaching matchups, with offensive masters Dennis Erickson and Walt Harris facing off.

    Why Oregon State will win: The Beavers have the edge in the ground game, thanks to sophomore sensation Steven Jackson. Forced to respect the run, Pittsburgh will be vulnerable to play-action passes from Oregon State quarterback Derek Anderson.   • Pointe South Mountain Resort in Phoenix bills itself as the largest all-suite resort in the Southwest, with six swimming pools, four restaurants and a 38,000-square-foot athletic club. The Oregon State football team will stay there during the Insight Bowl -- but not by choice.

    Oregon State will pay between $150 and $200 a room per night to put up players, coaches and staff at the Pointe South Mountain, OSU athletic director Bob De Carolis said.
