POLL: Philipp now...or Philipp later?
MICHAEL PHILIPP: Now or later?
MICHAEL PHILIPP: Now or later?

Posted Jun 15, 2009

IT'S USUALLY NOT in question -- true freshman offensive lineman need (at least) a year or two in the weight room plus a whole lot of coaching tutelage before they are ready to play, let alone challenge for a starting job on a Pac-10 offensive line. But Oregon State's Michael Philipp is not your typical incoming freshman offensive lineman.

Mike Riley and line coach Mike Cavanaugh have repeatedly said this offseason that Michael Philipp may play this year for the Beavs.

And they've said that if he does play, he's going to start -- they're not going to burn a year of eligibility for a few snaps in a few games here and there.

A bulldozer in cleats, Phillip was projected by Scout.com to be a 3- or even 4- year starter. He's a four star recruit who excels at run blocking, and who turned down offers from most of the Pac-10 to play for the Beavs.

So the question is this, would you suit him up or put him on the sidelines this fall?
