ADENIJI: ‘I just dropped the knee’

CORVALLIS -- While the big story of the day was the dominating Oregon State win over Washington, the team that beat USC, and the loss by that USC team on Saturday at the hands of Stanford, all of that almost certainly fell by the wayside upon retrospect for Damola Adeniji. Because the Beavers’ starting wide receiver asked a life changing question on Saturday. And she said Yes.
It was Senior Day at OSU, and numerous upperclassmen were recognized by Beaver Nation. But in a true underdog story, senior wideout
Damola Adeniji
’s is hard to top.
Adeniji went from walk-on to big time spring ball performer over the years -- and then he realized every walk-on’s dream when he earned a scholarship prior to this season. And he’s proceeded to perform like a guy who was highly sought out of high school -- he’s become a clutch performer on game days this year for the Beavs with 42 receptions for 583 yards and three touchdown.
Adeniji has given Canfield a strong, athletic target to throw to, particularly on third down and when the Beavs had to have it. And while Adeniji came away with just three receptions for 35 yards against the Huskies on Saturday, it was his pregame performance that was his crowning performance.
Because for Adeniji, Saturday was a day like no other, and it didn’t have to do with football.
As the senior wideout was introduced to Beaver Nation, the six-foot-three, 213 pound Adeniji took his girlfriend of seven years, Amanda Cook, to the side and asked for her hand in marriage.
She delightfully accepted, thus adding yet another upbeat storyline for the Beavers on Saturday.
“Right after my name was called for senior introductions, I took her off to the side and asked her if she would share the moment with me,” said Adeniji during the post-game press conference.
Asked if the happy couple had set a date, Adeniji showed wisdom beyond his years.
“That’s all her category,” he said. “I just dropped the knee."
