Scout.com learned late Monday night that Scout.com's No. 25 offensive tackle in the country had made his decision. Micah Hatchie, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound prospect from Waialua, Hawai'i wanted to make his intentions known during an in-home visit with Washington coaches Johnny Nansen and Dan Cozzetto Sunday night. But he waited.
"I wanted to tell them last night, but I just wanted to make sure and talk with my family about it," Hatchie told Scout.com late Monday night.
By Monday morning he was sure. And he couldn't wait to tell Nansen the good news. "I told him I wanted to be a Dawg," said Hatchie. "I just like how the coaches and how they are."
By Monday night, approximately 9:40 PST, he was on the phone with
Washington
Head Coach Steve Sarkisian, letting him know that he was ready to join the Huskies' already jam-packed class. "I told him I wanted to be a Dawg, and he was really happy," Hatchie said of his conversation with Sarkisian. "He told me congratulations."
Hatchie had already taken an official visit to Washington, during the annual Apple Cup clash with
Washington State
, and he said that trip made a big impact on his final decision. "I felt pretty much at home as soon as I got there, except that it's colder," he said. "I just have to get used to that."
Unlike fellow Hawaiian lineman
Lawrence Lagafuaina
- who plans on taking at least one more official visit before finalizing his UW commitment, Hatchie isn't going out of his way to look for another suitor. It definitely sounds like his commitment is one that's going to stick.
"It's pretty much up to them (UW coaches), if I'm allowed to," he said. "If they would let me maybe, but I'm pretty much set on Washington already."
