INJURY REPORT: Pre-spring edition

WITH SPRING BALL right around the corner head coach Mike Riley talked with the media about the various player injuries, including who is going to miss spring practice.

Offense

PLAYER:  WR Darrell Catchings

INJURY: High ankle sprain

STATUS: After missing the majority of 2009 due to an ankle injury Catchings, a senior in 2010, is petitioning the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility. His case will be looked over and decided upon in March. Either way, Catchings will participate in spring practice.

 

PLAYER: OG Grant Johnson

INJURY: Shoulder

STATUS: "Grant Johnson had surgery on his shoulder and will miss spring ball," Riley said.

 

PLAYER: TE Joe Halahuni

INJURY: Left thumb

STATUS: "Joe Halahuni's thumb is doing well," coach Mike Riley said. Halahuni will be ready for spring practice.

 

PLAYER: WR Micah Hatfield

INJURY: Broken leg

STATUS: Hatfield broke his leg in October. "He's got another doctor's appointment, he will get some metal taken out of his leg pretty soon and should be ready for spring ball," Riley said.

 

PLAYER: QB Lyle Moevao

INJURY: Right throwing shoulder; right ankle injury

STATUS: The former starter took just one snap in 2009 and is petitioning the NCAA for an addition year of eligibility. Moevao's status will be determined in March.

"I try to remain hopeful and no more than that," Riley said. "I am certainly not counting on it. I will be pleasantly surprised if it happens - more then pleasant, I will be ecstatic. I just going to remain hopeful though."

 

PLAYER: OT Timi Oshinowo

INJURY: Knee

STATUS: Oshinowo continues his rehab after missing all of 2009. He started practicing in mid-October and is expected to suit up for spring practice.

 

PLAYER: OT Rory Ross

INJURY: Knee

STATUS: Ross had knee surgery in December and is currently rehabbing. He is expected to participate in spring ball.

 

Defense

PLAYER: DT Mitchel Hunt

INJURY: Knee

STATUS: "Mitchel Hunt (knee) is rehabbing and it is going to be a long haul. He will not ready for spring, maybe not even the fall," Riley said.

 

PLAYER: S Josh LaGrone

INJURY: Knee (torn ACL)

STATUS: Had surgery just before the '09 season started and missed most of the year. Will be healthy and ready for spring practice.

 

PLAYER: CB Sean Martin

INJURY: Shoulder

STATUS: "Sean Martin has had a bad shoulder - so he is having surgery Thursday (Feb. 4) and will miss spring ball probably," Riley said.

 

PLAYER: S Lance Mitchell

INJURY: Knee

STATUS: "Lance Mitchell already had surgery and should be ready for spring ball," Riley said.

 

PLAYER: DT Brennan Olander

INJURY: Knee (ACL strain)

STATUS: The often banged up Olander appears to be healthy according to Riley.

 

PLAYER: LB Keith Pankey

INJURY: Knee

STATUS: "Keith Pankey's knee was bothering him, but they determined it was tendonitis and he will be okay," Riley said. Pankey will participate in spring drills.

 

PLAYER: DE Mana Rosa

INJURY: Shoulder

STATUS: "Mana Rosa will have surgery on his shoulder that he hurt in January in a freak accident - I think he feel down," Riley said. Rosa will miss spring practice.

 

PLAYER: S Anthony Watkins

INJURY: Shoulder

STATUS: "Anthony Watkins is doing well and will be ready for spring ball with his shoulder," Riley said.

 

PLAYER: LB Tony Wilson

INJURY: Knee

STATUS: Missed all of the regular season in 2009 before making a return on special teams in the Las Vegas Bowl.
