Portland 4-star talks Beavs, recruiting
"Oregon State is a good place, too," said Scarlett. "I've talked a lot with their coaching staff, that was the first football camp I went to when I was a freshman. So I've known their coaching staff for a long time.
"I like their defensive line coach a lot, I like how he teaches his players and his philosophy on what a defensive line should be."
SCARLETT IS OUT of Central Catholic High, the same school that has produced Beavers Kevin Frahm and Ryan Gunderson in recent years.
Scarlett is already up to 11 offers all told, including six Pac-10 rides. Where he might line up at the next level remains in question.
"There are some schools who are recruiting me as an athlete because I play tight end also. I haven't really decided if I prefer to play defensive end or tight end in college. Most of the colleges are giving me the option," said Scarlett.
Oregon State, however, may have some work to do if they're going to be the ones who sign Scarlett next February. While the Beavs have made an impression and have long been recruiting him, so have others. And that includes the Beavs' in-state rival.
"I love Oregon, it's a great place. I've been there for a couple games and I love the atmosphere and the intensity," said Scarlett.
SCARLETT HAS TAKEN unofficials to Oregon State, Oregon and UCLA, and has camped at USC and UW. More unofficial trips are likely coming up this spring and summer.
"I'm going to try and do some but I'm not really sure which ones yet," said Scarlett. "Cal-Berkeley emails me a lot and I've met 4-5 coaches from that coaching staff...and I've met a lot of the UCLA coaches."
SCARLETT LOGGED 59 tackles and six sacks this past season before tearing the ACL in his knee during a playoff game.
The setback doesn't appear to have slowed his recruiting. All things being equal, the plan is to be back doing full contact by mid-summer.
