Canfield marching in with the Saints

SEAN CANFIELD IS marching in. The Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints selected the Beaver QB with the 32nd pick in the 7th round on Saturday. The 6-4, 225-pounder was the 13th quarterback taken in the NFL Draft.

What are the Saints getting?

Sean Canfield completed 67.9 percent of his passes as a senior in 2009 -- an OSU single-season record, the top mark in the Pac-10 and the sixth best completion percentage in D-IA. He racked up 3,271 yards with 21 TDs against seven interceptions and is headed to New Orleans.

The Saints, in the NFC South, list three quarterbacks on their roster -- Drew Brees, Mark Brunell and Chase Daniel.

Brees, of course, just led the Saints to their Super Bowl victory. He's 31 years old and a 10-year pro.

Brunell is 39, and has 18 years under his professional belt after coming out of Washington.

Daniel is a second year pro out of Missouri. He went undrafted last year and originally signed a free agent deal with Washington. After the Redskins waived Daniel, the Saints picked him up the following day, signing him to their practice squad and promoting him to the active roster in late September.

The draft concluded Saturday afternoon without LB Keaton Kristick, WR Damola Adeniji and OG Gregg Peat being selected. But the trio is expected to hear their names shortly as teams are now dialing furiously to lock up the best of the rest via free agent contracts.
