THREE BEAVERS SIGNED undrafted free agent contracts and will get a shot at the NFL -- WR Damola Adeniji, LB Keaton Kristick and OL Gregg Peat, and two moves came with surprises. With Kristick, many thought an NFL team might get themselves a steal with a 6-7th round draft pick. As for Adeniji, no one was talking about the NFL a year ago -- after all, he was a walk-on with one career catch.

But Damola Adeniji hauled in 57 grabs for 807 yards last season. Tampa Bay on Sunday signed the 6-3, 215-pounder to a free agent contract according to the Oregonian. Tampa Bay spent two picks among their nine overall in the draft on wide receivers -- Arrelious Benn was taken by the Bucs with the 39th overall pick (7th pick in the 2nd round) and Mike Williams was taken with the 101st overall choice (3rd pick in the 4th round).

Benn is a 6-1, 219-pounder from Illinois, Williams a 6-1, 221-pound WR from Syracuse. In addition, Tampa Bay has eight other receivers on the roster, including one familiar face among them.

Adeniji will join BeavGreats wide receiver Sammie Stroughter, safety Sabby Piscitelli and punter Sam Paulescu at Tampa Bay. Immediately after the draft on Saturday, Adeniji at first received only a minicamp invite from Chicago, along with a tryout offer with New Orleans. But on Sunday, Tampa Bay offered the FA contract, and Adeniji became Florida-bound.

Keaton Kristick according to multiple reports signed a free agent contract with San Francisco after he didn't hear his name called in the three-day NFL Draft. At 2:13 pm on Saturday, about when the final pick was made, Kristick made a three letter entry on his twitter page -- LOL.

Kristick, who checked in at 6-3, 234 pounds at the combine, led the Beavs in tackles with 95 last season. But a 4.74 in the 40 at the combine and a recent history of stinger injuries may not have helped his pro stock in the draft. At San Francisco, he'll have a head coach in Mike Singletary generally considered to be one of the five best ever middle linebackers in the NFL along with Dick Butkus, Jack Lambert, Ray Lewis and Ray Nitschke.

San Francisco drafted one linebacker, making inside linebacker Navorro Bowman, (6-2, 240) their 3rd round selection. The 49ers list nine other linebackers on their 53-man roster, 45 of whom are eligible to play on Sundays. A team may open summer camp with a max of 80 players on the roster.

Gregg Peat, a 2009 first team All-Pac-10 selection at offensive guard, was picked up by the Indianapolis Colts where he will join former Beaver center and now starting guard Kyle DeVan.

There has been no undrafted free agent signing news thus far on former Beaver defensive end Ben Terry, the other hopeful considered OSU's other 2009-10 best bets for the pros.

Meanwhile, the selection of Sean Canfield by the New Orleans Saints in the 7th round meant this was the 10th straight year the Beavers had a player drafted. Canfield became the first quarterback drafted out of Oregon State since Derek Anderson in 2005, when he was picked in the sixth round by the Baltimore Ravens. Anderson spent his first five seasons with the Cleveland Browns before signing a two year deal with the Arizona Cardinals this offseason.

Canfield joins a Saints team with three quarterbacks on the roster -- Drew Brees (31 years old), Mark Brunell (39) and Chase Daniels (23). Brunell, however, remains unsigned and a number of media outlets are speculating he will not be retained by the Saints.
