Thump...no more season for the Ducks
The Oregon State Beavers completely dominated the Oregon Ducks in the 108th
Civil War on Saturday by winning 50-21. The game was relatively even for the
first half, but the lack of playmakers, some coaching mistakes and failing to
stay competitive resulted in Oregon’s run for 11 straight winning season
coming to a stop with a resounding thud.
Oregon, 5-6, 4-4 in the Pac-10, suffered its first losing season since 1993...more

Home for the holidays: Oregon's season comes to ugly end with
Civil War loss to Oregon State
This wasn't much of a war. It was hardly a battle.
Oregon State proved as dominant Saturday as the Beavers have been in 108 years
of Civil War football games, putting up their highest point total ever against
Oregon and winning by their widest margin since a 39-2 victory in 1942 with
a 50-21 declaration of which team will be going to a bowl and which is done
for 2004...more
from Bob Clark of the Eugene Register Guard.
Ducks' season ends with an absolute thud

Duck Mascot Goes On Defense
The number to call if you want to attend the University of Oregon is (800) BE-A-DUCK.
And for a select number of students over the years, it has become a reality.
Actually being a Duck, that is. As in The Duck. Also known as "Donald,"
the UO's beloved mascot for more than seven decades now...more
from Mark Baker of the Eugene Register Guard.
Anderson perfect in final game at Reser
Mr. Anderson, pass me that heaping dish. Go ahead and add the Scappoose signature
with a giant mound of sauerkraut. I missed the festival, but it's my turn to
eat crow.
In the biggest game of his college career, Derek Anderson played like a champion
Saturday in the 108th edition of this nasty little neighborhood argument...more
from Brian Meehan of The Oregonian.
With win, Beavers make a statement
The orange mob wanted the goal posts. It wanted to rip them out of the ground,
carry them out of Reser Stadium and walk them straight through campus.
Maybe the mob would have dropped the goal posts on the steps of Oregon State's
administration building. Maybe it would have marched them through downtown Corvallis.
Or left them on the side of Interstate 5, where passing motorists today would
be reminded which football team currently owns this state...more
from John Canzano of The Oregonian.
Offensive line took it on the chin this year
The Ducks never were very happy with their offensive line this season, and here's
why:
Oregon allowed seven sacks Saturday against the Beavers. That brought the total
number given up by the Ducks this season to 41...more
from Ryan White of The Oregonian.
Ducks won't look back on this season
The sentiment was good. Justin Phinisee was looking forward, thinking ahead.
"I don't even think seasons past," the Oregon defensive back said...more

from Ron Fernas of The Oregonian.
Ducks' season never heated up
Oregon not only missed out on a chance to go to the school's eighth consecutive

Beavers bowl-bound
Amid a sea of tailgating Oregon State fans Saturday afternoon, Ryan Bodyfelt

steel toolbox for more than half an hour.
The 6-year-old Wilsonville boy's father couldn't have been more proud...more

Beavers likely headed to El Paso, but bowls depend on USC's
wins
Oregon State's Civil War victory likely propels the Beavers into the Sun Bowl
in El Paso, Texas on Dec. 31.
Things could change, however, depending on whether No. 1 USC and No. 4 California
remain unbeaten...more

Rough night for Ducks QB Clemens
It was simple enough, in Kellen Clemens mind, how crucial his three interceptions
were in Oregon's 50-21 loss to Oregon State in the 108th playing of the Civil
War.
"It gave them 17 points," a dejected Clemens said, "and that's
huge. It not only gave them 17 points, it put our defense in bad spots."...more
from Dan Itel of the Salem Statesman Journal.
Red-hot Swancutt adds to sack total
Oregon State defensive end Bill Swancutt made his home finale memorable.

Oregon's bowl hopes vanish with loss to Oregon State
It was a disappointing end to a season of underachievement for the Oregon football
team.
The Ducks were hammered by Oregon State 50-21 Saturday during the 108th installment
of the Civil War at Reser Stadium. With the loss, Oregon (5-6 overall, 4-4 Pacific-10
Conference) failed to qualify for a bowl game for the first time since 1996
and finished with its first losing season in 11 years...more
from Jon Roetman of the Oregon Daily Emerald.
Sun Bowl looks promising for OSU
Now that the Oregon State football team is bowl eligible, the Beavers must wait
until Dec. 4 before they know where they are going bowling.
The only bowl game representative to watch the Civil War on Saturday night

Dec. 31 game, but must wait to see what UCLA and California do in their final
regular season games...more

Beavers' turnaround began with 14 days in October
There was no phony enthusiasm, no hip-hip-hoorays, when Oregon State's coaches
slunk into the Valley Football Center on Oct. 3.
They were still reeling from the 49-7 knockout punch California had administered
the previous day. They were shell-shocked, 0-2 in the Pacific-10 Conference
and at 1-4 overall, with USC, Washington and Oregon yet to come...more
from Brooks Hatach of the Corvallis Gazette Times.
Hass makes a statement
Mike Hass made sure he looked up Oregon free safety J.D. Nelson during Oregon

and he wasn't impressed...more
from Kevin Hampton of the Corvallis Gazette Times.
Vintage Swancutt
Bill Swancutt stood in front of the Oregon State student section and gave a
yell as he flexed for his fans.
Although well-spoken off the field, the display was vintage Swancutt during
an OSU game. The 50-21 Civil War win in hand, Swancutt was celebrating his fourth-quarter
interception of Kellen Clemens' shovel pass...more
from Kevin Hampton of the Corvallis Gazette Times.

but redshirt freshman Anthony Wheat-Brown took over after two games...more
