Moore leads embattled Beavers past Huskies 27-17
The first half, Oregon State established the run. The second half, the Beavers
went to the pass the long pass.
When the smoke had cleared Saturday, the embattled visitors rolled out of Husky
Stadium with a 27-17 victory over Washington that will at least temporarily
silence the critics who said the Men in Orange were going nowhere fast ... more

Beavers' offense clicks into winning gear
This time, the Beavers did not need all those Alexis Serna field goals.

Beavers overcome
Here was Oregon State quarterback Matt Moore, yelling at a group of OSU fans
at Husky Stadium on Saturday.
But this was nothing like last week, when Moore went after the student section
at Reser Stadium in one of the darker moments of a 13-6 loss to Washington State

OSU's Doggett helps keep Stanback in check
Who says college students don't read the newspaper? Oregon State outside linebacker
Derrick Doggett said a story that ran in The Oregonian on Wednesday gave him
some extra incentive against Washington quarterback Isaiah Stanback in Saturday's
game at Husky Stadium.
"I saw in the paper that he was the fastest player on the field, faster
than me," said Doggett, who seemed to either be on Stanback's heels, or
dragging him down for losses, much of the afternoon. "I felt like that
was disrespecting me. I felt like I had to go out there and prove that I was
the fastest guy on the field." ... more
from The Oregonian.
OSU should stay the course
The quick fix seldom works in college football, which might come as news to
people who bookmarked the FireMikeRiley.com Web site, or the Oregon State students
who have been holding up the block-letter signs to spell out "CANFIELD"
at Reser Stadium.
If the block letters made it to Husky Stadium on Saturday, they disappeared
early. One hopes they've been put away for the season ... more
from Ken Goe of The Oregonian.
Shared quarterback duties don't last long
So much for Oregon State having a quarterback controversy.
Senior starter Matt Moore silenced most of the critics who had been calling
for redshirt freshman Sean Canfield to take charge of the offense as he rallied
the Beavers to an impressive 27-17 victory over Washington before a crowd of
62,656 at Husky Stadium ...

Doggetts twins provide motivation
Oregon State linebacker Derrick Doggett was getting tired as the mid-October
twilight enveloped Husky Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Chasing fleet Washington quarterback Isaiah Stanback all over the field will
do that to you. But every time Doggett needed a spark, some inspiration, he
looked at the names Akayla and Akyla, written in black
ink on the white tape that encircled each wrist ... more

Moore, Beavers down Huskies
Senior Matt Moore played his finest game as Oregon States quarterback
on Saturday and the Beavers completed a rare hat trick at Washington with a
convincing 27-17 victory over the Huskies.
Most in the crowd of 62,656 arrived at Husky Stadium expecting Washington to
continue a renaissance thats seen the Huskies (4-3, 2-2) move into bowl
contention after winning just three games the past two seasons. Instead, the
Beavers (3-3, 1-2) turned the tables with an inspired effort that resulted in
their third consecutive victory here ...

Feel good game
Matt Moore finally shrugged off a season-long burden.

Beavers get first Pac-10 victory

Season on the brink
Things couldn't have gotten much worse for the Washington football team Saturday,
at least, until they did.
Already unable to take advantage of an Oregon State team that was begging them
to take control of the game, the Huskies watched as the future of their season
became a huge question mark ... more

Loss doubly costly to UW
Washingtons upbeat season of resurrection was jolted Saturday in a sobering
defeat that included both insult and injury.
The insult was a physical manhandling by Oregon State, which rolled past the
Huskies, 27-17, at Husky Stadium ... more
from Dan Ruiz of the News Review.
Moore gets bit of redemption
Oregon State quarterback Matt Moore never saw the two plays that changed Saturdays
football game against Washington.
On the third-quarter play that put the Beavers back in front, an 80-yard touchdown
pass to Sammie Stroughter, Moore was buried in an avalanche of blitzing Huskies
... more

Huskies season might rest in Bonnells hands
Just as a football game got so bleak for the Washington Huskies it looked like
nothing else could go wrong, something went very wrong Saturday.
Isaiah Stanback, owner of the Huskies strongest arm, quickest feet, fastest
legs and most magnetic presence the captain of our ship,
coach Tyrone Willingham called him appeared to lean one way on a quarterback
scramble, and his right ankle went the other ... more

Beavers' victory over Dawgs began up front
Derrick Doggett had a point to prove.
The Oregon State strongside linebacker had read all week that Washington quarterback
Isaiah Stanback would be the fastest man on the field Saturday. Doggett, 6-foot-3,
220 pounds of flash flood, took it with him into Husky Stadium and helped hang
a 27-17 loss on Washington ... more

Beavers run over, away from Dawgs
Oregon State could barely find a way to move the ball, much less score. The
Beavers had been shut down by California and Washington State in back-to-back
weeks, managing just one touchdown in their last eight quarters.
Washington, meanwhile, had allowed just three touchdowns in its last 11 quarters.
The Huskies had stood up to USC's offense, shut down Arizona and stopped UCLA
for three quarters ... more

UW gambles, OSU scores on 80-yard TD pass
If there was a turning point in Saturday's game at Husky Stadium, it occurred
midway through the third quarter with the University of Washington holding to
a 17-13 lead.
On a first-down play after a UW punt for a touchback, Oregon State quarterback
Matt Moore dropped back to pass. The Huskies were blitzing, but the extra pass
rushers were picked up by the Beavers offensive line, giving Moore time to wait
for a receiver to come open down the field ... more

Is Stanback's season over?
Final word is not due for another day or two, but it seems likely that University
of Washington quarterback Isaiah Stanback will miss next week's game at California
and maybe even the rest of the season.
Stanback, a fifth-year senior, was helped off the field early in the fourth
quarter of Saturday's game against Oregon State after suffering an apparently
severe foot injury. He was injured on a third-and-26 play when he scrambled
for 24 yards, evidently as he turned his foot while trying to cut in the final
few steps before being tackled ... more

Stanback, UW down and out
On the first play Saturday, Isaiah Stanback completed the longest pass of the
season for the Huskies.
By the last play, Stanback was sitting in a cart, his right foot encased in
ice.
In between, the Washington Huskies' season took a turn as gloomy as the weather,
with the forecast for the future even murkier ... more

Moore's resolve never wavers for Oregon St.
All week, the Beavers' faithful had been calling for Matt Moore's head. The
season's ills, from Oregon State's losses to the lackluster downfield passing
game, was piled on the senior quarterback.
Even his coach's faith was wavering, with Mike Riley making the decision before
the game to give backup Sean Canfield, a redshirt freshman, some snaps in the
second quarter ... more

This defeat could leave UW reeling
And in the seventh game, it all came apart.
This Washington football team had been solid, even inspiring,
during the season's first six games. It had shown indisputable progress. It
had created a buzz ... more

Huskies get beaten up by Beavers at home
The Washington football team left the Husky Stadium field battered and bruised
following a thorough 27-17 trouncing at the hands of the Oregon State Beavers
and their season hopes of going to a bowl game may have gone down in flames
as well when QB Isaiah Stanback appeared to seriously injure his right ankle.
It didnt start of poorly for the Huskies as they got off to a quick start
when Stanback hit WR Anthony Russo on a deep slant that covered 56 yards all
the way down to the Oregon State 20, but the Huskies were unable to capitalize,
settling for a career-long 46-yard field goal by Michael Braunstein ... more
