Offense sputters, but OSU edges Arizona 17-10
Oregon State won a very important game Saturday, one that puts the Beavers
on course for a potential bowl game. But the Beavers didn’t leave themselves
a lot of room for error.
The Beavers (4-3 overall, 2-2 in Pac-10 play) jumped to a 14-0 first-quarter
lead, then held on to beat Arizona (3-5, 1-4) 17-10 before a crowd of 57,113
at Arizona Stadium ... more

A wave of momentum has built up.
It’s not gullywasher size as seen in these parts, but it is enough to
make the second half of this season interesting ... more

LaRocque: Right place, right time
Joey LaRocque was in the right place at the right time all game Saturday, or
so it seemed.
The Oregon State junior linebacker came up with a fumble recovery in the first
quarter, and added a huge interception late in the fourth quarter that went
a long way in the Beavers holding off Arizona 17-10 at Arizona Stadium. ...

Defense has OSU’s back once again
It looked so much like those two Boise State games on the road — Oregon
State jumping out to a 14-point first-quarter lead.
But unlike those two games that saw the Broncos rally for big wins, this time
the Beavers were able to make the early advantage hold up ... more

When it comes to defense, Beavers 'take it personal'
Arizona quarterback Kris Heavner didn't do as good a job of selling the second-down

Oregon State nickel back Daniel Drayton had just one assignment on the last

Wildcats can't catch up to Beavers
The Arizona football team came into Saturday's game against Oregon State knowing
that to win, it couldn't ask too much of quarterback Kris Heavner, its third
starter in three weeks.
Indeed, a 14-point first-quarter deficit proved too much for Heavner and the
Wildcats to overcome, as they fell 17-10 in front of a Family Weekend crowd
of 57,113 at Arizona Stadium ... more

Late rally comes up short
In a game reminicent of the Washington game, the Wildcat defense had one bad
quarter and then watched as the offense could do nothing to help the cause.
Oregon State scored 14 points in the first quarter and then hung on to win 17-10.
Despite only gaining 168 yards, the Wildcats had a chance to tie it in the
final minute. In just four plays, Heavner led the Cats down to the Oregon State
28. He was sacked on the next play and then on second down he was flushed from
the pocket and heaved a desperation throw that was intercepted by Daniel Drayton
at the two-yard line on the game's final play ... more

Wildcats' last gasp fall short in loss to Oregon State
Arizona receiver Mike Thomas was about five yards into the end zone on the final
play of the game. Three Oregon State defenders were in front of the goal line.
Quarterback Kris Heavner was running for his life, scrambling near the right
sideline. He couldn't quite get set as he tossed a pass from around the Oregon
State 40 while being hit by a defender ... more

Brought down again
The UA football team trailed by a touchdown with less than a minute left in
Saturday's game against Oregon State, the kind of hero-making situation that
exists in dreams.
For Arizona, it became a nightmare come to life in the form of a 17-10 loss

Cats have stopped making progress
The accepted origin of Arizona's football decline was the 1999 season opener
at Penn State, a grim 88-game period in which Wildcat fans have done everything
but drown themselves in their salsa.
For manifold reasons — mostly poor recruiting, poor coaching and poor
quarterbacking —the Wildcats have spent 88 games flailing away without
much success ... more from
Greg Hansen of the Arizona Star.
OSU finds early separation
