RALLY TIME: Oregon State's last 0-2 start was the 2004 season with losses at LSU and Boise State, but the team rebounded to end the year 7-5, winning six of their last seven, and defeated Notre Dame 38-21 in the Insight Bowl. Believe it or not, the team actually started the ’04 season 1-4 - a similar record the Beavers could sport in three weeks.

BALANCING THE OFFENSE:  Through two games Oregon State has passed the ball 42 times more than they have run the ball.  Mike Riley firmly believes that they must have balance on offense to move the ball effectively.  As a result, don't be surprised to see Jacquizz Rodgers carry the ball 30 plus times, and if everything turns out okay, earning the first 100-yard game of his young career.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT: In 2006 and 2007 the Beavers started the year 2-3, but won 6 of last 7 games in '06 and 7 of the last 8 in '07 as they finished in the Top 25 both years. This year they face the possibility of sporting a 1-4 record as they face No. 1 USC at home in two weeks and at No. 22 Utah on the road in three weeks.

ANOTHER CHANCE:  Despite Johnny Hekker's horrendous 28.57 average per punt and the fact that the Beavers net punting ranks 112 in the nation, the coaches will stick with the true freshman and not open up the starting spot to competition.

HEADS OR TAILS?: Accompanying the Oregon State team captains on the field for the coin toss will be Rockne “Rocky” Freitas the chancellor of Hawai’i Community College in Hilo. Freitas was a three-year (1964-66) letterman tackle who helped the Beavers advance to the 1965 Rose Bowl.

PERFECT: Head coach Mike Riley is a perfect 15-0 at Reser Stadium versus non-conference opponents while the Oregon State football program has a 24-game non-conference home game winning streak that dates back to their 67-28 win over Northern Illinois, Nov. 16, 1996.

ON A PITCH COUNT:  Junior quarterback Sean Canfield has been throwing for a week now, but he won't be the backup this weekend.  Right now the trainers have limited his throws in practice putting him on a "pitch count."  There is no timetable for his return and in the meantime redshirt freshman Justin Engstrom will continue to serve as Lyle Moevao's backup.

THE NON-CONFERENCE HIT LIST: The Beavers’ victories during their non-conference winning streak include Utah, Boise State (twice), Fresno State (twice), Idaho, Idaho State, Portland State, Eastern Washington (twice), New Mexico, New Mexico State, Sacramento State, Eastern Kentucky, Baylor, Nevada, Northern Arizona, UNLV, San Diego State, Georgia Southern, San Jose State, North Texas, Utah State and Northern Illinois.

WORKING THEIR WAY BACK:  Center Marcus Henderson and DT Mitchel Hunt are both cleared to play but are not back to playing shape yet due to the time they missed after battles with mono during fall camp.

FAST STARTS: Oregon State has outscored its opponents 132-34 in the first quarter over the 2006 and 2007 seasons at Reser Stadium, and in the last 10 games has a margin of 97-10 in the opening period.

STILL LOOKING: Coach Mike Riley still needs one more win to tie Paul Schissler (1924-32) with 48 wins and move into the top three winningest coaches in Oregon State history. He needs four victories to tie Dee Andros (1965-75) with 51 wins as the winningest coach in the program's history.

MORE REPS:  While RB Jacquizz Rodgers supplanting Ryan McCants atop the depth chart is officially the only change to the starters look for LB Dwight Roberson and DT Sioeli Nau to get just as many repetitions as the starters Saturday due to their standout play the past two weeks.

OPPONENT THIRD DOWN CONVERSIONS: Oregon State opponents have converted 12 of 26 third (46%) down opportunities with many of the conversions coming on third and 10 or more yards. Its opponents are 4 of 6 from 10 or more yards out and 9 of 23 from one to 9 yards out.

OSU THIRD DOWN CONVERSIONS: On the flip side the Beavers are 10 of 29 (34%) on third down conversions, just 2 of 6 from three yards out and 0-4 from five yards out. They are 1 of 7 from 10 yards or more out which means they aren't picking up much yardage on first and second down as they face third and long.

BACK TO THE DAYS OF PETTIBONE?: If the Beavers lose to the Warriors Saturday not only would it snap Riley's 15-game and Oregon State's 24-home game non-conference winning streak it would be the first time the program has started a season 0-3 since 1996.

300 CLUB: QB Lyle Moevao joins ASU’s Rudy Carpenter and USC’s Mark Sanchez as Pac-10 quarterbacks averaging more than 300 yards per game passing. Moevao has thrown for 654 yards in the first two games.

SITTING OUT: Oregon State offensive guard Jeremy Perry hoped to be back for the Hawaii game saying he would play even if he had a broken leg.  Unfortunately for Perry and Beaver Nation he will not suit up Saturday.  Perry, who originally hurt his knee at Hawaii in 2006, is week to week as he cannot practice two days in a row due to soreness in his knee. The trainers recently put him on a new treatment plan in hopes of getting him on the field as soon as possible.

COULD BE A RECORD:  General admission tickets for the Hawaii game are sold out as Reser Stadium will be near capacity.   Saturday's crowd could be the largest ever in Reser to watch a non-conference game.  The largest thus far was the 42,876 that watched OSU's win over Boise State in 2005.

TWO OF THE BEST: Receivers Shane Morales and Sammie Stroughter rank 1-2 in the Pac-10 in receptions with 17 and 16 respectively through the first two games.
