Oregon State and Cal met...
Oct. 13, 2007 in Berkeley - Oregon State 31, No. 2 Cal 28
Oregon State and undefeated No. 2-ranked California met in front of a sellout
crowd at Berkeley and the Beavers deprived the Golden Bears of an opportunity
to rise to No. 1 (top-ranked LSU had lost earlier in the day) by winning a 31-28
thriller.
OSU took a 31-21
lead midway through the fourth quarters only to see Cal backup QB Kevin
Riley mount a comeback. Cal scored a touchdown to draw within three
points with 2:31 to play. The Bear defense forced an OSU punt and Cal took over
at its own 5-yard line with 1:27 to play and no timeouts.
Riley drove the
Bears all the way to the OSU 12-yard line with 14 seconds left, but was forced
to scramble and was tackled with no timeouts and Cal did not have enough time
left to get the field goal unit on the field.... more

Last time Cal
played in Corvallis...
Sept. 30, 2006 in Corvallis - #20 California 41 , Oregon State 13
California and Oregon State met early in the season at Corvallis and the Golden
Bears jumped out to a 31-0 first-half lead and cruised in with a 41-13 victory.
Cal QB Nate
Longshore completed 22-of-31 passes for 341 yards and four TDs to spearhead
the Bear attack. WR Lavelle Hawkins had 128 receiving yards
and a TD on six receptions.
California's defense
limited OSU to 56 yards rushing and posted four QB sacks. Beaver PK Alexis
Serna hit a 58-yard field goal to tie the school record for longest
field goal. ... more from

Last time
Cal played...
Nov. 8, 2008 in Los Angeles - No. 7 USC 17, No. 21 Cal 3
Mark Sanchez threw two touchdown passes, and No. 7 USC's
defense battered No. 21 California in a 17-3 victory.
The win was the
sixth straight for the Trojans (8-1, 6-1 Pac-10), who have outscored the opposition
231-23 since losing 27-21 as 25-point favorites at Oregon State. The Trojans
came in averaging 40.25 points and the Bears (6-3, 5-1) were averaging 36.4,
with a single-game low of 24 ... more

Last time
Oregon State played...
Nov. 8, 2008 in Pasadena - Oregon State 34, UCLA 6
FLEXING THEIR DEFENSIVE muscles, and capitalizing on the legs of record
setting sensation Jacquizz Rodgers, Oregon State overcame key
first half mistakes to win going away 34-6 over UCLA on Saturday to become bowl
eligible. OSU's stop corps owned the line of scrimmage, DT Stephen Paea
and DE Victor Butler spent so much time in UCLA's backfield
their mail will probably be delivered there next week.
And sometimes,
stats don't lie. Quizz went over the 1,000 yard mark on the season in the first
half, over the 100-yard mark for the game near the end of the third quarter,
(finishing unofficially with 144 hashes on the day) and then in the fourth quarter,
Quizz broke the all-time ... more

Golden Bears leading the series 33-27.

OSU had a five game winning streak in the series. OSU is 7-2 versus the Bears

Cal connections.
Oregon State mentor Mike Riley coached then quarterback
and current California head coach Jeff Tedford during the 1988
Canadian Football League season in Winnipeg. The Bombers won the Grey Cup title
that season and Riley was named the Coach of the Year.
Tedford signed
his first professional contract in 1983 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who were
coached by Bud Riley (Mike’s father).
Riley also has
another connection. He was a defensive graduate assistant in 1975, the last
time Cal won the conference title.
Cal offensive line
coach Jim Michalczik was Oregon State’s offensive line/special
teams coach from 1999-2001 while defensive back coach Al Simmons
coached in Corvallis from 2001-02 as the secondary coach.
