IT'S OVER. FINISHED. DONE. The 25-game losing streak for the hoops squad is no more, as Oregon State beat Fresno State 62-54 on Sunday to log the first win under first-year coach Beavers' coach Craig Robinson.
Oregon State won it in the paint, with a 34-26 rebounding advantage.
They also won it with defense, holding Fresno State to 24.1 percent shooting in the second half.
And you could see this one coming -- the signs were there. Oregon State lost their first four games by an average of only 3.5 points.
The backcourt had a good night, as Rickey Claitt led the Beavs with 14 points while guards Seth Tarver (12) and Lathen Wallace (12), plus F Omari Johnson (11) all scored in double figures. Oregon State cashed in on 8 of 14 three-pointers, and guard Josh Tarver led OSU with six rebounds.
The decisive run came in the second half with Oregon State trailing by a point, as the Beavers outscored the Bulldogs 13-2 to forge a 52-42 advantage and gain some breathing room.
It had been more than 11 months since Oregon State had last tasted victory -- the Beavs bested Northern Colorado 65-56 on Dec. 19, 2007.
