In front of a sell-out crowd of 10,400 the Ducks continued their dominance of the Beavers in Corvallis winning 80-63 on Saturday night.

“They (Oregon State) played well, started out well,” said Danen McGilchrist, a member of the band.

“We just couldn’t protect against the three.”

The Ducks won the game in a six-minute stretch of the first half. With 6:10 remaining in the half Oregon State cut the lead to four on a pair of free throws from Brian Jackson.

That was followed by two Andre Joseph threes, then five points from Luke Ridnour, another Joseph three ball, a Matt Short lay-in, and one more Ridnour three to give the University of Oregon a 19-2 run and a 47-26 lead before David Lucas closed the half with two free throws.

The Ducks hit 14 of the 28 three-point attempts. It seemed like every time the Beavers would put together a run it would be James Davis, Joseph, or Ridnour would hit a three. Those three Duck players combined to hit on 12 of 21 three- point attempts.

Ridnour led the U of O with 18 points and 9 assists.

“It seemed like it was close but the Ducks kept hitting three after three and that brought us out of our game,” said Beaver Dam member David Choquette.

Jackson’s 15 points and 8 rebounds led the Beavers. The only other OSU player in double figures was Lucas with 11.

Star wingman Luke Jackson had just 5 points in a miniscule 19 minutes.

“If you would have told me that the Luke’s (Jackson and Ridnour) would combine to get 23,” said Choquette, “I would take that and take my chances.”

A Lamar Hurd jumper cut the Duck lead to 12 with 10:05 left in the game, but that was the closest the game would get.

It was the supporting cast that killed the Beavers on this night.

Davis and Joseph each hit 4-of-7 from behind the arc en route to 16 points apiece.

For OSU, no single player hit more than three shots from the field.

Philip Ricci in particular had an off night, going 3-of-14 from the field, notching only 9 points and 5 rebounds. The nine points was Ricci’s second lowest total of the season, only the second time this season he failed to reach double figures.

On a positive note for OSU, they did a good job of getting to the free throw line hitting 24-of-34 attempts.
