Experienced, big tackle who does a nice job of taking up space.
OSU: “Bear” as he was nicknamed started 12 games
for his career, all consecutively...he was invited to the Las Vegas Classic following
his senior season...part of the defensive line that helped Oregon State rank first
in the Pac-10 in 2005 for rush defense allowing 108 yards per game...played in
36 career games, including the 2004 Insight Bowl and 2003 Las Vegas Bowl...registered
5.5 tackles for loss in both 2003 and 2004...transferred to OSU following the
2001 season at Tulane...his play as a junior assisted OSU in ranking second (USC)
in the Pac-10 and 18th in the nation for total defense allowing 313.3 yards, first
in the Pac-10 for pass efficiency defense (101.0) and third for rush defense (117.3).
HARGRAVE: He attended Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham,
Va., as a senior and played for head coach Mark Dodd...named the team’s
best lineman in 1999 after accounting for 80 tackles and 13 sacks...had 21 tackles
and four sacks in a game vs. Norfolk Academy...a first team all-league and second
team all-state selection...he also played fullback for Hargrave and for his
senior year had 420 yards and made eight two-point conversions.
B.E. MAYS: Alvin was a three-year starter for head coach Larry
Helen at the Atlanta school...during his three years he accounted for 212 tackles
and 37 sacks.
MILFORD: Alvin attended Milford Prep School in Connecticut
in the fall of 2000...played for head coach Bill Chaplick...made 53 tackles
and 10 sacks.
PERSONAL: Born in Dallas, Texas...son of Alvin Smith Sr.,
and Phyllis Jackson-Smith...has one sister, Miya...majored in liberal studies. |
