has great speed and is tough. He’s along the same lines as
some of our guys who are currently playing the position in the
NFL.”
2007: Derrick is one of the premier
linebackers in the Pac-10…two-time
Pac-10 second team honoree…one of the top senior defenders in
the conference…a team leader…has an innate ability to be around
the ball…one of the fastest players in the league…19 career starts…
possibly the next in a long line of Beaver linebackers headed to the
NFL – joining Keith Ellison (Buffalo), Richard Seigler (Pittsburgh),
Nick Barnett (Green Bay) and James Allen (New Orleans).
2006:
Selected to the Pac-10 Conference’s Second Team after finishing
fifth in the league for tackles for loss with 14 (74 yards)…18th in the
conference for overall tackles with 87…Pac-10 Defensive Player of
the Week after making 10 tackles, including two for loss and one
sack, and forcing a fumble in the win over Washington…career-high
13 tackles at Boise State and picked up 12 at Hawai’i…intercepted
three passes, returning two for touchdowns – 12 yards vs. Idaho and
34 yards vs. Oregon…started all 14 games…had at least one TFL
in 10 games. |
