Oregon State running back Ryan McCants, who had surgery on his knee in the summer and missed all of fall camp and every game so far this season, will be a backup running back this weekend when the Beavers take on USC.

"Ryan McCants will be a full-fledged back-up running back for us this week," coach Mike Riley said. "and that's a good thing."

In 11 games last year the sophomore carried the ball 85 times for 363 yards and two touchdowns while adding six catches for 30 yards.

McCants will battle with true freshman Jovan Stevenson for the backup running back duties.

Biography:

2009: Ryan gives the Beaver offensive backfield a different look with his straight-ahead running style ... expected to be a major contributor this season ... injured a knee late in the second spring scrimmage (April 17) which required offseason surgery.

2008: Ryan started three games, including the final two due to the injury to Jacquizz Rodgers ... rushed for 337 yards for the season, 84 in the last two outings ... scored two touchdowns, including a 35-yard gallop at UCLA ... rushed for a season-high 60 yards in the victory over Hawai'i ... six receptions for 30 yards.
