Canfield with back to back 300 yard games

Sean Canfield Profile

For the second time in his career Oregon State quarterback Sean Canfield has put together back to back 300-yard passing games.  In 2007 he threw for 353 yards against Idaho State and 324 yards against Arizona State.

During those two games he tossed five touchdowns, but also five interceptions.

This season the lefty tossed for 329 yards against USC and 305 last weekend against UCLA, but there is a notable omission in the last three games - interceptions.

The senior has gone 117 pass attempts without a pick while throwing for four touchdowns in the same time span.

"Sean, in the last few weeks, has played as good of football as he he's played since he's been here," coach Mike Riley said.  "It shows us all the development of the player at that position

"It has to do with confidence and growth."

The coaches showed a ton of confidence in Canfield last weekend when they called a naked bootleg for him - perhaps a first for him while in Corvallis.

It wasn't a smooth play, to say the least, but he got back to the line of scrimmage and got down before the defender could deliver a solid hit.

Biography:
2009: Sean is one of two quarterbacks (Lyle Moevao) with extensive starting experience... the lefty enters the season 7-4 as a starter, although he played most of the ASU game in 2008 and Emerald Bowl in 2007 - both victories ... capable of making all the throws in the complex Beaver offense, including the deep throws ... worked exclusively with the first group during spring ... co-team captain.

2008: Sean missed nearly all of practice in August and the first few weeks of the season while rehabilitating from a left shoulder (his throwing shoulder) injury suffered at USC in '07 - cleared to play for the first time at Utah Oct. 2, although he wouldn't see action until Oct. 11 vs. Washington State ... started two games for the season at UCLA and Arizona, and played a majority of the Arizona State game due to a Lyle Moevao injury - all victories ... ninth at OSU for career passing yards with 2,699 ... completed 66.7 percent of his pass attempts and had a pass efficiency of 155.78 - would have been second in the Pac-10 behind USC's Mark Sanchez, but he did not have enough attempts to qualify ... threw a career-long 75-yard pass to James Rodgers at UCLA, setting up the game's first score (FG).
